XFL Championship Betting Odds Strategy
The Defenders enjoyed a tremendous season and an equally dominating playoff opener. They overpowered the surging Sea Dragons 37-21 in the Division Championship.
On the other hand, the upstart Renegades, led by former OU boss Bob Stoops, pulled off an upset, besting the Houston Roughnecks 26-11.
DC is led by Jordan Ta’amu. A dual-threat QB out of Ole Miss, Ta’amu finished third in the XFL in passing yards and seventh in rushing yards, respectively. He led the league in yards per attempt through the air by a large margin at 8.3. For context, the next best among starters was 7.5 YPA.
Additionally, the Defenders boast the top rusher in the XFL in Abram Smith, who piled up 791 yards, more than 300 clear of his nearest competitor.
If that sounds like a tall order for the Renegades to overcome, that’s because it probably is. The Renegades only recently settled on a QB after giving snaps to several players during the season. Luis Perez emerged as top dog and rewarded the coaching staff with 276.3 YPG over the past three matchups. That included a narrow 28-26 loss to DC in the penultimate regular season game.
DC defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and his aggressive scheme will look to take advantage of Perez with big plays. Perez took 11 sacks in eight games despite splitting snaps in some spots. He also threw seven picks.
The total is one of the higher ones of the year in a league in which most games sported numbers in the low 40s. However, note that the game takes place in the Alamodome, which should mean favorable indoor conditions for offense.
