FanDuel Sportsbook WV Review

February 21, 2019

FanDuel was founded in 2009 in the US as a daily fantasy sports (DFS) company.

It is the second-largest DFS provider in the country based on its revenue and market share.

In May 2018, FanDuel was purchased by an Ireland-based bookmaking company, Paddy Power Betfair; the sale became final in July. Then, with the federal ban on sports betting already struck from the books by the Supreme Court, FanDuel jumped at the opportunity to expand its operations.

Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey became the first FanDuel-branded, land-based sportsbook. Then, along came the West Virginia facility at the Greenbrier Casino soon after.

FanDuel also launched an online sportsbook, which is currently only available in New Jersey. This new platform is scheduled to go live in West Virginia in early 2019.

Legality in West Virginia

The legal framework for sports betting in West Virginia contains temporary provisions for online betting. Thus, FanDuel will be able to offer its services in the Mountain State as soon as it obtains an online gambling license from the West Virginia Lottery, which oversees internet bookmaking activities within state lines.

The minimum age for using FanDuel Sportsbook in West Virginia will be 21 years old.

Betting options and restrictions

FanDuel NJ supports betting on most professional sports, which includes:

  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Darts
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Hockey
  • Mixed martial arts
  • Rugby
  • Soccer
  • Tennis

College basketball and football are also available, with more additions to come throughout 2019.

FanDuel also gives its customers a chance to bet on nonsporting events from time to time. However, expect these options to be limited to entertainment in West Virginia. For example, betting on local elections is prohibited across the state.

In addition, WV residents won’t be able to bet on all e-sports events as the law doesn’t allow betting on contests that involve minors.

As for the available wager types, FanDuel customers in New Jersey enjoy access to all the standard options: moneyline bets, spread bets, totals, props and futures. One of this platform’s unique features is wagering on DFS point production of specific athletes.

Live, in-play betting

Like all serious sportsbooks, FanDuel NJ features an in-play betting component, which should be available in West Virginia on day one.

This option allows players to place wagers during the contest and adjust their decisions or hedge their bets to account for the momentum behind each team.

Live betting options for high-profile events typically include standard moneylines and spreads as well as a wide range of sport-specific props. These props can range from set winners in tennis to the next player to score a touchdown in football; they’re a great way to spice up your viewing experience.

A viewing service called FanDuel TV should be available for free to all its wagering customers.

Mobile betting

The online betting industry made the jump to mobile devices a few years ago. In fact, FanDuel was designed to be mobile-friendly right from the get-go.

The New Jersey betting app is available for both Android and iOS devices. The iOS app can be downloaded from the iTunes Store, while the Android app must be downloaded directly from FanDuel.

Regardless of the software you use, you enjoy access to the same features that are available on the web-based client. The browser-based app seems to be an upscale version of the mobile software, so there’s no learning curve involved in swapping between the two.

Banking

Clearly, FanDuel outshines its New Jersey competition in banking options, and we expect this also to hold for its West Virginia service.

Available deposit options should include:

  • ACH
  • Check
  • Credit/debit card
  • FanDuel’s prepaid card
  • Online bank transfer
  • PayNearMe
  • PayPal
  • Wire transfer

A PayPal deposit will likely only be possible if players link their PayPal with a bank account. FanDuel handles withdrawals via ACH, PayPal, FanDuel’s prepaid card and check.

Customers will also likely be able to withdraw and deposit at the cashier at the Greenbrier Casino.

Promotions

FanDuel Sportsbook is very competitive when it comes to promotions.

All new customers can place a $500, risk-free bet, which is refunded as credit if it loses. This promotion is also available to people who already own a FanDuel DFS account.

In addition, FanDuel Sportsbook always has a few limited-time offers. In February, these offers include NBA parlay insurance, daily odds boosts for the hottest events, and NHL Tuesday overtime insurance.

Please note that the term “insurance” may be slightly misleading here, as players aren’t required to pay more to take advantage of the offer.

In practice, promotions of this sort allow FanDuel customers to get refunds on lost bets. For example, the NHL promotion allowed the customers to get a return on any moneyline wager placed on any Tuesday NHL game, up to $25.

Customer care

FanDuel Sportsbook has a significant edge over its US-based rivals when it comes to customer support and learning resources.

FanDuel’s website has a comprehensive FAQ section, which covers a wide range of issues, from app installation to in-depth information on the available markets and high-profile sporting events.

If you don’t find the answers that you need there, you can contact the staff using one of the following methods:
