World Series Game 5 Picks, Predictions: How I’m Betting Yankees Vs. Dodgers Odds
A sweep it shall not be. The Dodgers failed to put away New York in Game 4, so it’s onto Game 5 and back to traditional starter vs. starter baseball. World Series odds favor the Yankees once again to push the series back to L.A. Below, I’ll explain why I bet the underdog here for Yankees vs. Dodgers odds.
The first pitch for Dodgers at Yankees is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET on FOX.

Who Has The Better Pitching?
Jack Flaherty and Gerrit Cole will face off once again in Game 5. In Game 1, they both turned in fine performances in what developed into a late-inning classic.
Here’s how the two hurlers compared this season:
Stat | Jack Flaherty | Gerrit Cole |
---|---|---|
ERA | 3.17 | 3.41 |
FIP | 3.48 | 3.69 |
xFIP | 3.00 | 3.99 |
xERA | 3.51 | 3.59 |
K-BB% | 24% | 17.9% |
HardHit% | 35.9% | 39.5% |
Flaherty outperformed Cole across the board this season. It’s hard to find a single stat that says otherwise.
Now, Cole has a longer and better track record. Naturally, that’s worth something.
However, given their respective ages (Flaherty is 29, Cole is 34) and the fact that Cole’s velocity has begun to flag slightly in the past couple of seasons, I think there’s a legitimate chance Flaherty is just the better pitcher at this point.
The bullpen edge for Game 5 should also go to L.A. Clay Holmes, Mark Leiter Jr., and Luke Weaver have each worked each of the past two games. Now, they can each probably push for another short stint in Game 5, but they’ll have the familiarity advantage working against them, with the Dodgers having gotten multiple looks.
By contrast, the Dodgers used low-leverage arms for much of Game 4 and should have their best guys fresh.

Mo’s MLB World Series Picks: Dodgers Moneyline (+124)
The market seems certain that Cole is significantly better than Flaherty, but I can’t get there.
Once again, I’m on the Dodgers at an identical price to yesterday’s wager, and once again, I’m on DraftKings Sportsbook. However, I’ll note that my numbers show a much better edge this time around. Where my number showed a barely bettable edge for Game 4, I like the Dodgers quite a bit in Game 5. Anything better than +110 is playable for me.
Best of luck with your World Series picks.
