World Cup Group E odds

As another week passes by, we draw another week closer to the World Cup in Qatar. With supporters around the globe now reaching fever pitch, the lengthy wait for this edition of the tournament will soon come to an end. Below, you can find World Cup Group E odds and analysis for every team.

Our group-by-group stage guide is also moving along at a rather considerable pace with Group D covered in our previous article.

Group E Team Previews

Each team plays the others in the group once. The top-two finishers after round robin play advance from the group to a single-elimination knockout stage. Wins earn three points. A draw is worth one point. A loss is worth zero points.

Outright Odds : Although Spain’s golden generation has mostly moved on, memories of World Cup success in 2010 still loom large. Although the nation’s current crop has yet to scale those same illustrious heights, they should not be overlooked when it comes to success in 2022.

Because although the likes of Xavi or Andres Iniesta can no longer be called upon, the Spain squad is still dripping with a ludicrous amount of talent. The midfield baton has been handed to the likes of Rodri and Koke.

Then again, it is not just the midfield where Spain will look to command the respect of their opponents. With attackers such as Alvaro Morata and Ferran Torres set for Qatar, it will add a focal point to La Rioja’s attack.

A focal point that is certainly needed. If Spain are to go all the way, they are going to require a consistent end product throughout the tournament. Should that be the case, this team could offer a decent amount of value in the outright market.

Group Qualification Odds : After the World Cup draw in April, a considerable amount of focus was placed on Group E. With Spain being paired with Germany, you can begin to understand why.

With two genuine global powerhouses in the same four-team league, it also has a knock-on effect for the Round of 16 and this will potentially mean bad news for Belgium as likely winners of Group F.

When you consider the teams involved in Group E, Spain and Germany sit a class apart from the rest. Group qualification doesn’t look like a high-value bet. Which of these two European nations comes out on top?

Outright Odds  : Going into the 2022 edition of the World Cup, Germany find themselves as sixth favorites and at current odds, can be called the last of the genuine hopefuls. Before you rush to put them on your betting slip, a word of caution regarding the squad’s transition phase.

With manager Hansi Flick attempting to usher out the old guard, success in Qatar may be a tournament too soon. Especially when you consider Germany will host the 2024 European Championships.

Then again, the new wave of German talent should certainly not be overlooked. With the likes of Kai Havertz and Serge Gnabry now ready to be unleashed on the biggest stage, outright victory must also be given some consideration.

Group Qualification Odds : As with Spain, the focus should be placed on Germany’s ability to win the group. With little difference between them and their European counterparts, Group E may become something of a quest for goals.

Do not be surprised if the encounter between Germany and Spain ends in a stalemate and if that proves to be the case, Group E may then become something of a goal rush. Score the most against Japan and Costa Rica and first place will follow.

Outright Odds : It has certainly been a tough group stage draw for Japan. Although arrival in Qatar will mean their seventh consecutive finals appearance, the same pattern for the previous six looks likely to be followed.

That pattern sees them fail to get out of the group stage in one tournament and then reach the Round of 16 the next. After managing to earn knockout football in Russia four years ago, another early exit looks likely in 2022.

Group Qualification Odds : In most groups, a global giant is paired with a dark horse and that same thoroughbred then has to deal with a potential upstart coming up from the rear. Unfortunately for Japan, Group E sees a pair of former winners drawn together and they are not in the mood to finish outside the top two.

Although the Japanese squad always has a neat balance between attack and defense, it often lacks an element of steel in the middle of the field. This usually sees them outmuscled by their opponents.

The usual group-defining game in a similar style to Group B’s clash between Wales and the United States doesn’t look likely within Group E. With nearly a foregone conclusion set to unfold at the top, the best Japan can hope for is third.

Costa Rica

Outright Odds  : There are outsiders and then there are rank outsiders before this year’s World Cup. Unfortunately for Costa Rica, the Central American nation find themselves propping up the rest of the outright market.

Admittedly not on their own – as Saudi Arabia have been handed the joint-longest odds for outright success. But, it will surely go the same way as events in Russia four years ago.

Costa Rica finished bottom of Group E and with them being placed in the same letter this time around, the likelihood of finishing fourth and going home early is one on which you can almost bank.

Qualification Odds : If you can bank on Costa Rica not winning the World Cup, you can also bank on them not getting out of the knockout phase. Although this will not be the bravest bet that anyone makes before the tournament, it will at least boost your bankroll after the opening fortnight.

That is not to do Luis Fernando Suárez’s men a disservice. It is just a realistic assessment of what is set to unfold. Although Costa Rica surprised many in 2014 by reaching the last eight, do not expect the same surprises in Qatar.

Best of luck navigating World Cup Group E odds.
