National Championship Rematch

While this year’s matchup comes earlier than many expected, it’s just as anticipated. Angel Reese and LSU bested Caitlin Clark and Iowa in last year’s NCAA Women’s National Championship Game, spawning the famous image of Reese pointing to her ring finger in front of a dejected Clark.

This year, Clark and Iowa are favorites over LSU in the Elite Eight, according to the latest Women’s March Madness odds. The Tigers are underdogs on the moneyline and the over/under is set at points.

Public Betting on Iowa and Caitlin Clark Odds

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, 53% of bets back Iowa on the moneyline, while 69% land on the Hawkeyes’ spread (between -1.5 and -2), as of Monday morning. While the favorites have rolled throughout the men’s bracket, underdogs crashed the party in the last couple of rounds for the women. Double-digit favorites went just 8-16 against the spread in the first two rounds of the tournament. Zero No. 2 seeds advanced to the Elite Eight, going 0-3 outright against No. 3 seeds.

No. 3 seed NC State (+5.5) upended No. 1 seed Texas to clinch a spot in the Final Four Sunday. Even undefeated South Carolina went 0-2 ATS in its last two rounds.

Iowa is 2-1 ATS in its first three tournament games, only failing to cover in the Round of 32 against WVU (-14.5 favorites).

LSU Iowa Odds 2024

Clark didn’t let Reese’s victory celebration be the final image of her illustrious Iowa career. The senior returned, leading all Division-I in scoring with 31.7 points per game. Notably, she broke the all-time scoring record for both men and women’s hoops and set women’s college basketball viewership marks time and time again. While Reese and LSU reign as champions, Clark and Iowa drive viewership.

A shock to many, Kim Mulkey’s LSU (31-5) was awarded a No. 3 seed on Selection Sunday. Even more surprising, the NCAA Committee paired them with Iowa (32-4) in Region 2. Instead of a Final Four collision or championship rematch, the two rivals square off in the Elite Eight. It’s sure to bring plenty of eyes to ESPN on Monday night. More may tune in following a public clash between Mulkey and the Washington Post.

The No. 1 seed Hawkeyes look far from the Thanos-esque team across the bracket in South Carolina. Iowa struggled to end off No. 8 seed West Virginia at home. The Big Ten Tournament also gave them fits. Iowa took the conference title in overtime against Nebraska, the tournament’s fifth seed.

LSU, on the other hand, made an example of No. 11 seed Middle Tennessee in the second round before beating No. 2 seed UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen. The Tigers entered the game as 3.5-point favorites, further emphasizing the likely under-seeding they faced this postseason.
