Women's Bracketology Odds: South Carolina, UConn Favored In Wide-Open Field
The women's conference tournaments are just over a week away, which means we have reached the thick of bracketology season. The top contenders have come into focus, led by No. 5 UConn and No. 6 South Carolina, the defending champs.
Let's look at the current odds and where the top teams are projected into the field.

Uconn, South Carolina Lead CLear Top Tier Of Six
South Carolina entered last season's postseason as a prohibitive favorite, at least as far as a single team can be in a single-elimination event requiring six consecutive wins. The Gamecocks were slightly favored over the field after an extremely dominating 32-0 regular season.
While Iowa gave them a scare, hanging within single digits for the first half, South Carolina ultimately prevailed easily, 87-75.
Bettors will find no such firm favorite in the 2025 field. While a clear top tier of six teams has emerged — every other team is 40-1 or longer — no team has implied probability much higher than 20% when factoring in the sportsbook vig.
UConn and South Carolina slightly lead that group over No. 2 UCLA, which has the most pristine record of the bunch at 26-1. South Carolina has brought back four of its five starters from last season's super-team. Geno Auriemma's Huskies, meanwhile, will try to deliver the legendary coach his 12th national title.
Interestingly, keen women's bracketology observers will note that ESPN currently has South Carolina and UConn projected into the same region (Birmingham). That could result in an Elite Eight meeting between the two favorites.
UConn and South Carolina faced off Feb. 16, and Auriemma's squad put an epic beating on the champs. The Huskies won 87-58 despite playing on the road.
UCLA, Texas, Notre Dame Projected As No. 1 Seeds
The aforementioned UCLA Bruins are projected as the No. 1 overall seed, possibly facing off with 2023 champ LSU in the Elite Eight. UCLA's only loss came at No. 4 USC.
In addition to UCLA and South Carolina, No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Notre Dame received projections as No. 1 seeds. Texas split its season series with South Carolina, each team winning at home. The Longhorns also lost to Notre Dame.
The Irish, meanwhile, put together a strong run after a couple of early stumbles. They had won 19 in a row before dropping a road game against ranked NC State.
Keep in mind that projected seedings can and will change between now and Selection Sunday. With five of the top eight seeds in women's bracketology coming from the SEC and Big Ten, those tournaments figure to have a disproportionate effect on further developments.
