Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History With 45-Point, 10-Assist Game
Caitlin Clark continues to defy the norm.
And despite having an up-and-down couple of seasons, both personally and at the team level, Friday night produced a historic performance.
The Indiana Fever star put together one of the greatest individual performances the league has ever seen, becoming the first player in WNBA history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in the same game.
Clark finished with a career-high and franchise-record 45 points, 10 assists, four steals and two blocks in Indiana’s 110-107 victory over the Seattle Storm.
And it wasn’t just empty stats, given Clark led the Fever to a win and completely took over the game from start to finish, hitting big buckets down the stretch to secure the victory.
Whether she was knocking down her patented 3-point shots, creating for others or making plays defensively, incredible things were happening with the ball in her hands.
And this is just another reminder of why she’s one of the most dynamic players in the entire league.
While records are meant to be broken, this is one that simply hadn’t happened yet. No player in WNBA history had ever produced a 40-point, 10-assist game before Clark did it Friday night.
Not only has she completely altered the future of the WNBA from a popularity standpoint, given the league’s meteoric rise since she was drafted, but her play on the court continues to back it up as well.
She’s one of the league’s top players, one of its most popular stars and certainly one of the most discussed athletes in basketball.
At this point, what Clark is able to do shouldn’t be surprising, given how incredible she is.
But it’s still worth celebrating historic performances like this. And it certainly won’t be the last one she has before her career is all said and done.
