If you watch this year’s big race in New York, you will certainly want to know what time does the Belmont Stakes start. The Belmont Stakes will start at 6:48 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Keep in mind that this start time is approximate as pre-race festivities can push the opening of the gate back a few minutes. Expect the traditional playing of “New York, New York” around 6:40 p.m. ET. Below are Belmont Stakes start times based on time zone.

Pacific Time Zone: 3:48 p.m.

You may also want to know when does the Belmont Stakes end. The Belmont lasts a little longer than the previous two legs of the Triple Crown due to its long track. The winner each years typically clocks in with a time of 2 and a half minutes. Last year’s winner in Elmont, Essential Quality, won with a time of 2:27. That was the fastest winning time since American Pharoah in 2015.
