nfl week 9 power rankings

We do NFL power rankings differently than the rest. TheLines’ Week 9 power rankings aren’t Super Bowl futures opinions. Instead, we rank a team’s outlook on a week-by-week basis. The ranks are a composite of eight staff members — in the order of which team we would have favored on a neutral field this week. And three intriguing teams are on the move up the board this week.

NO. 4 SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Although not a huge move up in the power rankings, the reason to write up the 49ers here is that they have genuinely solidified themselves as a top-four team in the NFL. San Fransisco presents one of the only complete teams in football. In his second game as a 49er, newly acquired Christian McCaffrey scored a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, and even a passing touchdown against the Rams. San Francisco improves to 4-4 on the season and will look to string wins together so they can separate from the rest of the pack.

Up next for the 49ers are the Chargers, Cardinals and the Saints.

TheLines staff is unanimous in slotting the 49ers at No. 4 in our Week 9 power rankings.

No. 11 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

The Seahawks continued their impressive start to the 2022 season with a 27-13 victory in Week 8 over the Giants. The win brings the Seahawks to a 5-3 record and gives them sole possession of first place in the NFC West. Geno Smith was impressive yet again as he finished with two passing touchdowns and a 104.2 passer rating. The Seahawks offensive line again held up well, highlighted by rookie right tackle Abraham Lucas, who allowed just one total pressure on 41 pass-blocking snaps.

Seattle’s young defense is putting together a nice stretch of games where rookie Tariq Woolen surrendered under 50 yards in coverage for the fifth consecutive week.

Seattles upcoming schedule will not be difficult as they are slated to face the Cardinals, struggling Buccaneers and Raiders. All three teams are extremely beatable. The Seahawks moved up seven spots as a result.

Week 9 Spread: Seahawks at Cardinals

Who’s highest on the Seahawks? Stephen Andress (No. 10)

Who’s lowest on the Seahawks? Brett Gibbons (No. 20)

No. 18 CLEVELAND BROWNS

The Browns were impressive on Monday Night Football, blowing out their division rival Bengals in Week 8. Cleveland’s offensive identity is to run the football with their No. 1 ranked rushing attack. Nick Chubb continued his dominance running for two TDs. Jacoby Brissett has at least kept the playoff door open for the Browns without Deshaun Watson. He ran for a TD and passed another, leading Cleveland to its fifth straight win over Cincinnati. He completed 17 of 22 for 278 yards and a 133.7 rating while outplaying Joe Burrow.

Cleveland will go on buy in Week 9 before they play three more games without QB Deshaun Watson. The Browns will square off against the Dolphins, Bills, and Buccaneers next. The Browns will likely be underdogs in each.

Who’s highest on the Browns? Nate Weitzer (No. 17)

Who’s lowest on the Browns? Mo Nuwwarah (No. 24)
