week 10 power rankings

J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS! New York’s upset over Buffalo was just one of the many catalysts to major movement in the power rankings this week. We do NFL power rankings differently than the rest. TheLines’ Week 10 power rankings aren’t Super Bowl futures opinions. Instead, we rank a team’s outlook on a week-by-week basis. The ranks are a composite of eight staff members — in the order of which team we would have favored on a neutral field this week. Three intriguing teams are on the move up the board this week.

The Jets jumped nine spots in the Week 10 Power Rankings after their shocking upset over the Bills in Week 9. New York solidified itself as a team to take seriously. Although no star power, the Jets young players are playing extremely well. Even against Buffalos elite defense, Michael Carter ran for 76 yards and a TD on 12 carries. Garrett Wilson had eight receptions for 92 yards. The Jets defense did not allow Josh Allen to have any sort of success against them. New York intercepted Allen twice and sacked him five times. Allen was 18 of 34 for 205 yards and held without a TD pass for the first time since Week 17 of last season against Atlanta. New York was the first team in 2022 to go over their projected win total of 5.5.

New York is on a bye week. Up next for the Jets are the Patriots, Bears, and Vikings.

No. 1 Kansas City Chiefs

This may not be a big move up in the power rankings for the Chiefs yet definitely a notable one. Kansas City moved up to the highest consensus-ranked team in the league. Part of this is certainly Josh Allen’s elbow injury for Buffalo, as our rankings are snapshots in the present.

The Chiefs won a highly contested game in Week 9 where QB Patrick Mahomes moved to the odds-on favorite for NFL MVP. With a nonexistent run game, Mahomes put the Chiefs on his back throwing for 446 yards and scrambling for a team-high 63 yards and a TD. The Chiefs QB completed a pass to eleven different pass catchers.

Kansas City’s upcoming schedule will not be difficult as they are slated to face the Jaguars, Chargers, and struggling Rams.

General manager Chris Grier was active before this week’s trade deadline as the Dolphins added star pass rusher Bradley Chubb and running back Jeff Wilson. These moves showed the Dolphins’ legitimacy of going for it all in 2022. After another solid performance from Tua, and Bills QB Josh Allens’ potential injury, The Dolphins have cleared a path to win the division in a competitive AFC East. Tagovailoa, the NFL’s top-rated passer, is truly establishing himself as one of the elites. In the Dolphins Week 9 win, Tua completed 21 of 30 passes for 302 yards without an interception and posted a 135.7 rating. Tyreek Hill is currently first among wideouts in receiving yards while fellow teammate Jalen Waddle is fifth.

The Dolphins will square off against the Browns, Texans, and 49ers next.
