Houston, We Have A Problem?

For only the second time in NBA postseason history, a No. 7 seed is favored over a No. 2 seed among series betting odds.

The other occasion came in 2021, as the Phoenix Suns (+220) eliminated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. However, the Lakers held a 2-1 series lead before Anthony Davis missed the rest of the playoffs with a groin injury.

At DraftKings Sportsbook, the Warriors opened as high as -250 to forge ahead to the conference semifinals before Houston money immediately entered the fold. As of this publication, DraftKings showcases the same odds of the Warriors vs. Rockets series as Caesars Sportsbook. The best odds on Jalen Green and Co. are +160 at BetMGM.

Golden State nabbed three wins over Houston in the regular season and covered the spread in four of five. Nevertheless, two of those three victories came early in the season, with Steph Curry banged up and Jimmy Butler still on the Heat.

The teams split their matchups (Feb. 13 and Apr. 6) when Curry and Butler played. Meanwhile, four of their five regular-season meetings stayed under the total.

With both squads boasting a top-10 defensive rating and utilizing a below-average pace, that trend could continue throughout this series. Per the odds table below, the total is set at ahead of Game 1.
