USFL Week 5 Odds
Pittsburgh Maulers at Michigan Panthers
The Maulers came close to notching their second win before falling to the Stallions by a 24-20 score in Week 4. The Panthers continued to struggle, dropping a 29-10 decision to the Memphis Showboats.
The Maulers’ Troy Williams turned in what could be a season-changing performance at quarterback in Week 4 (280 total yards, one rushing touchdown). If he can keep up the strong work through the air against a Panthers defense allowing a stingy 169.2 passing yards per game and make his usually strong contributions on the ground, it would go a long way toward making up for Pittsburgh’s nearly non-existent conventional rushing attack.
The Panthers have lost two straight games by double digits and aren’t getting QB1 play out of either Josh Love or Carson Strong. The matchup Saturday isn’t exactly in their favor, either, as the Maulers are surrendering 195 passing yards per contest and the second-fewest total yards per game overall (274.0).
The Panthers are surprisingly 3.5-point favorites despite their recent play.
Houston Gamblers at Birmingham Stallions
The Gamblers moved to 2-2 with a 41-16 drubbing of the Stars in Week 4. The Stallions got a fight from the Maulers but eventually prevailed by a 24-20 score.
The Gamblers’ Kenji Behar appeared to suffer an ankle injury in the latter stages of the win over Philadelphia, but there haven’t been subsequent indications he’s dealing with a potential long-term absence. Whoever is under center will have a tough task against a talented Stallions secondary, yet RB Mark Thompson faces a unit conceding 138.5 rushing yards per game.
QB Alex McGough has been serviceable as Birmingham’s full-time starter and has a palatable matchup versus a Houston defense giving up a USFL-high 231.2 passing yards per contest. The outlook isn’t as bright for the C.J. Marable-ZaQuandre White backfield duo, considering Houston is surrendering a league-low 70.5 rushing yards per game.
The Stallions are favored by 4.5 points as of mid-week.

New Jersey Generals at Philadelphia Stars
The Generals narrowly missed out on their third win against the still-undefeated Breakers in Week 4, dropping a 20-17 decision. The Stars lost their third straight, falling to the Gamblers by a non-competitive 41-16 margin.
The Generals are positioned to capitalize on a reeling Stars team that could be without top QB Case Cookus (arm). The Darius Victor-helmed running game is facing a defense that’s allowing a USFL-high 148.8 rushing yards per contest. Trey Williams’ re-emergence in Week 4 (eight carries, 70 yards, 1 TD) as a complementary option only adds to the appeal of the matchup.
The Stars can’t seem to succeed in any phase, and Cookus’ potential absence could be downright disastrous. New Jersey is also a daunting opponent, with the Generals allow the third-fewest total yards per game (274.8).
The Generals are unsurprisingly robust 6.5-point favorites heading into the Week 5 clash.
Memphis Showboats at New Orleans Breakers
The Showboats finally recorded their first win in Week 4, toppling the Panthers by a 29-10 score. The Breakers remained undefeated with a 20-17 victory against the Generals.
The Showboats will look for a third straight strong performance from QB Cole Kelley, but the better matchup on paper is that of the Alex Collins-Kerrith Whyte backfield tandem. New Orleans has given up just under 100 rushing yards per gam. A ball-control approach versus the USFL’s top offense is likely prudent.
The Breakers boast the league’s passing, rushing and receiving yardage leaders in McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Wes Hills and Sage Surratt, respectively. The team averages a USFL-high 384.2 total yards per game. In turn, the Showboats are giving up a league 340.2 yards per contest, making this a tantalizing scenario for John DeFilippo’s squad.
The Breakers are the biggest favorites of the week.
Best of luck betting USFL odds in Week 5.
