USA Women’s Basketball Odds: Americans Heavy Favorites To Win Group C

The final score against Belgium wasn’t quite indicative of the continued dominance by Team USA (2-0). Breanna Stewart (26 points) and A’ja Wilson (23) rolled again, combining for over 100 points in their first two games. Stewart also blocked three shots while Wilson pulled in 13 rebounds. The rest of the cast was quiet, which led to the U.S. winning just 87-74, with Jewell Loyd and Alyssa Thomas being the third-leading scorers with eight points apiece.

Team USA shot under 50% from the floor and attempted just 14 threes, making only five. Against Germany (2-0), shooters like Kelsey Plum and Diana Taurasi could see more work. In Germany’s last game, they allowed 30 shots from three (albeit, a game plan move by Japan), but only nine fell. With dominant height inside, it could cause Germany to crash in and force outside shots.

The Germans are one of the few teams in the Olympics able to match the Americans’ height. Four starters stand 6-foot-4 or taller, with the exception of point Alexis Peterson. Satou Sabally is the feature of this lineup, currently playing for the Dallas Wings. In Germany’s last outing, Sabally dropped 33.

However, height only goes so far. Team USA features far more skill among its tallest players. Wilson and Stewart are the two latest WNBA MVPs, and Stewart is currently reigning.

The victor of this game wins Group C, as both teams have four group points. As a -19.5 favorite, Team USA is expected to win the group.
