The United States Men's Soccer National Team continues to get ready for next year's World Cup and will take on Australia in Colorado. The USMNT is coming off a respectable 1-1 draw with Ecuador, while Australia is coming off a big 1-0 upset of Canada in Montreal, winning despite taking just one shot on goal. Backup goalkeeper Paul Izzo was the star of the show, making several key saves en route to a possibly lucky clean sheet.

Australia, like the USMNT, are World Cup mainstays that always seem to qualify but never seem to go far. In 2022, they reached the World Cup Round of 16 for just the second time in their history, ultimately losing 2-1 to World Cup winners Argentina.

The Aussies are on a 12-match unbeaten run since September 2024, winning all seven of their matches in 2025 and clinching World Cup qualification for the sixth straight time and seventh overall.

For Australia, the United States arguably represents its most difficult match since facing England two years ago in 2023, when they fell 1-0 at Wembley. While it's only a friendly match, Australia need a win to improve their standing in the World Cup, as they are currently on the cusp of being placed in Pot 2 or Pot 3 in next year's inaugural 48-team World Cup. They are currently ranked 25th in the world, while the United States is ranked 16th and are guaranteed to be in Pot 1 as one of the World Cup's host countries.

The USMNT are in desperate need of some momentum as the World Cup nears, having won just one of their last four games. A win over a scrappy Australia team could be a big boost heading into November's friendlies against Paraguay and Uruguay.

Given that these two attacks are far from explosive, betting apps have predicted a low-scoring affair. This is the fourth all-time meeting between the two nations, with the USMNT winning the last game 3-1 back in 2010.

We expect a similar lineup as the USMNT put out against Ecuador, with Weston McKennie headlining the midfield and Folarin Balogun starting up top. There's a big belief to this side, especially when it comes to midfield effort.

“The main motto of the U.S. in general and then U.S. Soccer is belief,” midfielder Weston McKennie said. “With the guys, we’ve been around each other a long time, and we have the confidence to know that the game’s not over until the final whistle blows.”

We like a 2-0 USMNT win, given that Australia are playing so far from home and a mile above sea level in Denver. Haji Wright could play a big part in tonight's match; we think he'll score a goal playing out on the wing. The USMNT's experienced and very physical defense could pose a big problem for Australia, who are used to being the muscle.
