On Tuesday, the U.S. Women’s National Team plays Germany for a spot in the gold medal match. Olympics betting soccer odds favor Team USA to advance (-205) over Germany, -105 in full-time. Trinity Rodman netted the match’s only goal in the 120th minute +1′ in the quarterfinal to avoid PKs and an upset against Japan. The goal kept the U.S. (4-0-0) perfect in Olympic play ahead of its rematch against the Germans.

USWNT vs. Germany begins Tuesday, Aug 6, at 12:00 p.m. ET from Stade de Lyon in Lyon, France. Fans can watch on USA Network or stream on Peacock. Click the odds below to make a wager at online betting apps.

Three-Way Moneyline

Olympic women’s soccer odds imply a 51.2% chance the U.S. advances without overtime or PKs. The three-way moneyline includes a draw; therefore, bets on the USA or Germany would be graded as a loss if tied after 90 minutes, even if one team wins in Extra Time.

Potential Bets for USA Soccer Odds

TheLines.com’s Evan Scrimshaw contributed his favorite bets for this match.

USA Moneyline

At the beginning of the tournament, I’d never have thought I’d be making this bet. The USWNT has shown its upsides in this tournament, but they’re still fundamentally a work in progress. Emma Hayes is still working through the process of understanding her squad. And while this tournament has shown the good, the Japan game was possibly the worst-managed game of her short tenure. That said, this bet is far more about Germany.

The Germans do not deserve to be in this game. They gave up seemingly endless high-quality chances against the Canadians. Just because the Canadians’ reign of cheating being over meant they couldn’t convert doesn’t mean that the US won’t convert their chances. If the Germans give up even half as many chances as the Canadians had in the second half alone, they’ll easily score at least once.

On the other side of the pitch, the US defense has been remarkably solid. Only conceding two goals so far in this tournament, and two in her whole managerial tenure, is a success of the Hayes hiring. The Germans did manage to score three against Australia, but they struggled to convert chances against Canada and the US in the group stage. The Germans created 13 corners against the Canadians, but couldn’t score despite all that pressure. This bodes well for this defense holding again.

Over 1.5 Goals For USA

The Japan game is a concern, but the Americans put up 6 goals combined against Australia and Germany. More importantly, they seemed to find something in the last 20 minutes and added time against Japan. The decision to run more of their offense through Trinity Rodman was a success, and a building block for future success.

Once again, however, the real reason to bet this is that the Germans looked completely bewildered defensively against Canada. An even halfway-decent offense would have scored 2 in the second half. Plainly, I’m not positive the Americans qualify as halfway decent, but their offensive touch against the Germans in the group stage was impressive.

So long as Hayes learns from the Japan game, the Americans should score 2. Hayes didn’t become the premier women’s club coach in the world by being an idiot, so I suspect she’ll do what she needs to.

USA Corner Kicks: Over 4.5

Both these teams are relatively energetic teams, but the Americans consistently create corners. In their last three games, they’ve got 6, 9, and 6 corners. In all three of those games we’ve seen different game scripts, meaning they have created high numbers of corners whether leading or tied. Obviously, if the Americans fall behind, that would be even better for a Corners over, as the Germans would drop back and allow the Americans to advance forward.

Even against Japan, where the Americans looked unsure and indecisive offensively, they ended up with 6 corners. There’s every reason to think the Americans can hit that number again, especially having put 6 up in a game they were leading for the vast majority of in the group stage.

USWNT Projected Starting Lineup

Here are the expected starters for the USWNT against Germany:

  • GK Alyssa Naeher
  • DF Emily Fox
  • DF Naomi Girma
  • DF Jenna Nighswonger
  • DF Tierna Davidson
  • MF Lindsey Horan
  • MF Mallory Swanson
  • MF Rose Lavelle
  • MF Sam Coffey
  • FW Sophia Smith
  • FW Trinity Rodman

USWNT Favored tO Beat Germany, Advance to Gold Medal Match

In its second match in Olympic group play, the USWNT handed Germany a 4-1 defeat. Sophia Smith found the back of the net twice (10′, 44′) and alternate Lynn Williams put the game on ice (89′); Mallory Swanson added a goal, as well (26′). But it’s been Trinity Rodman who’s dominated headlines since Saturday. Rodman netted a game-ending goal (120’+1′) to beat Japan, 1-0, and avoid PKs in the quarterfinals. A thriller, certainly, but the U.S. would have liked a little more breathing room.

Germany notched its place in the semifinal match with a victory over Canada in PKs (0-0, 4-2). Ann-Katrin Berger successfully defended two Canadian PK attempts and netted the winning PK herself. Germany moved to 2-1-1 in Olympic play.

At -205, the USWNT has a 63.6% no-vig implied probability to advance to the gold medal match.

The winner of this match plays the victory of Brazil and Spain for gold. After defeating Colombia in PKs to advance, Spain is now favored to take gold (+135), per DraftKings Sportsbook. At BetMGM, the Spanish are odds-on favorites to win it all (-110). The USWNT is lined as long as +160 at DraftKings.
