USA Basketball Odds vs. Serbia

Dream Team Preview

Team USA faced Serbia in one of its tune-up matches on July 17. While the results of the matches overall wound up a little uneven, the modern Dream Team was excellent on that particular day. They steamrolled Serbia 105-79.

The frontcourt tandem of Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis dominated in relief of the ineffective Joel Embiid. They went a collective 8-for-11 from the field for 24 points. Adebayo nailed 3-for-5 from deep, while Davis tallied an eye-popping 6 blocks in 16 minutes.

Perhaps more importantly, they played suffocating defense on three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. He finished just 6-for-19 from the floor with a team-worst -27.

Stephen Curry paced the offense with 24 points on just 13 shots.

Team USA Vulnerable?

Despite the dominant performance, Team USA has largely scuffled since. In two subsequent games, they squeaked by lightly regarded South Sudan 101-100 and 2023 world champs Germany 92-88. Both games required heroics from LeBron James down the stretch to erase late deficits.

The market has responded. Whereas Team USA was once as high as -750 to win gold in some spots, they can now be found at slightly better prices.

Another poor performance here will leave the door open for Serbia to take the game and the group. While certainly nowhere near as talent-rich as Team USA, Serbia still features plenty of NBA talent on its Olympic basketball roster.
