USWNT Likely Significant Olympic Favorites
After winning four gold medals between 1996-2012, other nations have stepped to center stage in women’s Olympic soccer. Canada took home gold in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics while Germany took top honors in Rio de Janeiro 2016. In both instances, the USWNT was a substantial betting favorite, even being odds-on (-125) heading into the semifinals in 2020. And thus, the gold medal-less streak breaks 11 years heading into Paris.
This unit hasn’t lost since October 31, 2023, when Chile took a 2-1 decision in the Pan American Games. The U.S. took in a experimental roster of Under-20 eligible players, none of which project to start Tuesday.
In their last matchup, the USWNT beat Costa Rica 3-1 with that same U20 Pan American roster. This roster is a large step up in class.
Once Women’s Soccer Olympic odds come out, the U.S. is expected to be another heavy favorite in the tournament.
