Underdog Super Bowl PIcks

Let’s review some of my favorite Underdog Super Bowl picks, starting with a promo everyone should take advantage of.

Travis Kelce Underdog Super Bowl Promo

Don’t start your picks without this one. Underdog has a Travis Kelce promo available. Kelce needs only to go Higher Than 0.5 yards. That’s it, he only needs one catch, or even a rush that gains a yard.

This “gimme” promo has a maximum bet of $10. Technically, it could lose, but Kelce is unlikely to be blanked even by the ultra-stout Eagles’ defense.

Noah Gray Higher Than 12.5 Receiving Yards

Gray has seen his involvement in the offense crater in the playoffs. In the regular season, he scored more touchdowns than Travis Kelce. In the playoffs, he’s garnered just three targets — all in the Houston game.

Still, he’s playing just a bit under 50% of the snaps. That indicates he’s seeing the field plenty, so opportunities should be for the unsung backup.

Furthermore, the Eagles have defended 12 personnel (two tight ends) much less effectively than 11. Presumably, the Chiefs staff is well aware of this and will give Gray plenty of snaps. I like him to go higher than his number against a defense that forces a lot of short throws over the middle, the only routes Gray typically runs.

Harrison Butker Lower Than 44.5 Yards Longest Field Goal Made

Butker hasn’t been the same kicker since returning from injury. He’s compensating for something, as his mechanics look out of whack. He regularly sinks to a knee on his follow-through now.

The Chiefs have attempted just two field goals longer than 40 yards since Butker returned in early December. He missed the only one he attempted from more than 50 yards out.

Andy Reid is also willing to coach more aggressively in the playoffs. Whether that’s related to Butker or not is hard to say for sure, but I expect there’s at least a chance the Chiefs will try to coach around his issues by going for fourth downs in Eagles territory.

Oren Burks Higher Than 5.5 Solo Tackles

Burks took over the past two games for Nakobe Dean, and he’s now seeing a significant amount of clock. He notched four tackles and five tackles in the past two games.

Two things make me like the higher-than side here.

One, I expect the Chiefs to run a lot of plays. The Commanders and Rams are much more known for their explosive passing than the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes ranked third from last in average target depth (aDOT). The Chiefs may have an effective offense, but it moves the ball downfield methodically.

Additionally, the Chiefs zeroed in on Burks the second he entered the game in relief of Dre Greenlaw in last year’s Super Bowl. They targeted him relentlessly, knowing he represented a significant step down in coverage skills. Travis Kelce, bottled up for much of the first half, suddenly came to life.

I’m expecting the offensive brain trust to make Burks a frequent target again on an Eagles defense that doesn’t have many soft spots. That should open up tackling opportunities for the fill-in.
