Underdog NFL Picks: Thursday Night Football
In Week 1, Buffalo was 23rd in the league in Pass Rate Over Expectation, running the ball 7% less than a normal team given down, distance, and game scenario. The Dolphins weren’t much better, sitting 17th in the league. Both teams have talked about wanting to run the ball a lot, and the Bills showed it in Week 1.
Dalton Kincaid Lower Than 44.5 Receiving Yards
Kincaid has been a personal favorite of mine since his time at Utah, but he’s just not getting the usage. 2 targets, 1 catch, and 11 yards ain’t cutting it. The problem for Kincaid is that Buffalo just isn’t going to pass enough to make him viable on a week-to-week basis. Dawson Knox also exists to split what few targets will be thrown his way.
The bigger problem for Kincaid is there just aren’t enough targets. Despite being down at the half, the Bills only threw 23 passes. Nobody got more than 5 targets, and 8 people got 2+ targets. It’s a spread-out, diffuse offense that doesn’t throw very much. Unless some of those other options get hurt or Allen stops running so much, he’s a target for an under.
Devon Achane Lower Than 51.5 Rushing Yards
The Dolphins ran the ball 21 times with their running backs in Week 1, and only 10 of those went to Achane. Even if you boost Achane’s rushing attempts from 10 to 15, and even if you assume he averages 3.4 yards/carry instead of the 2.4 he averaged in Week 1, he still goes under.
The Dolphins offense is best in big strikes, and Achane’s value as a receiver means he’s unlikely to get too much early down use. There’s a reason both Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. got carries.
Jason Sanders Higher Than 2.5 Extra Points Made
At Caesars Sportsbook, the Dolphins are -174 to score three or more touchdowns. By betting on this XP prop, you’re getting a bet with a decent edge. Yes, not absolutely every possible Dolphins TD ends with a made PAT, but the Dolphins have a lot of options to score. Getting access to the whole offense without having to be concerned with who is doing the scoring is a benefit.
Best of luck with your Underdog NFL picks and don’t forget to lock in the latest Underdog promo code: THELINES.
