Underdog World Series Picks: Yankees at Dodgers game 4
The Dodgers are going to be going with a bullpen game in Game 4, trying to close out the series. On the other side, the Yankees are going to Luis Gil. Gil’s only made one appearance in this postseason, pitching three innings and allowing a pair of earned runs.
More important than Gil is the Yankees’ offense. The lineup has combined to hit .186 this World Series. Yes, they’re at Yankees Stadium and have the short porch, but they need some hits or else they’re done.
Alex Verdugo Lower Than 0.5 Total Bases
Verdugo hit the home run to cut the Yankees deficit in half in Game 3, but just in general he’s been a mediocre performer this series. In three games, he’s been on base three times, but only twice with a hit. His spot in the lineup is a bit of a concern, as well.
Zoom out to the whole playoffs, and he’s batting .184. He’s batting ninth for a reason. He’s not very good.
Shohei Ohtani Lower Than 1.5 Total Bases
The risk with this bet is that the short porch in right field could convert fly balls that would be outs at Dodgers Stadium into homers. We know Ohtani can hit for power, but this series so far he’s been mostly ineffectual. One hit, admittedly a double, in three games isn’t what Dodgers fans would have wanted.
Luis Gil isn’t great, but it seems like the Yankees have given their pitchers a clear instruction to not give Ohtani anything and to be fine with walking him. Throw in any discomfort in Ohtani’s shoulder, and this is the play.
Max Muncy Lower Than 0.5 Total Bases
Despite the Dodgers being up 3-0 in this series, their offense isn’t doing much at all. Muncy has yet to get a hit in this series, and that should continue. The Yankees pitchers are willing to throw balls, and Gil has shaky command, walking three in three innings against Cleveland in his only playoff start. Fortunately for those betting “Lower Thans,” walks don’t count as a base.
If Muncy gets a hit, then this will look silly, but he’s hitless in the series. Yes, law of averages suggests he’s due for positive regression at some point, it’s not likely tonight.
Best of luck with your Underdog baseball DFS picks.
