Notre Dame at UNC Odds: Betting Preview

While the Tar Heels have rebounded nicely from a 2-3 stretch in ACC play, stringing together four straight wins, the perception around the Fighting Irish has also greatly shifted. Notre Dame is stationed No. 1 in Haslametrics’ momentum rating, tallying victories in six of the last seven games. Their most recent ones came against Wake Forest and Clemson.

Therefore, this spread may appear a bit steep. However, Micah Shrewsberry’s unit benefited from a situational advantage in both matchups.

Not only are the Demon Deacons 2-9 away from Winston-Salem, N.C., but they were also in for a letdown after knocking off Duke in their previous matchup. Then, there’s Clemson, which only had seven healthy players in the practice before Saturday’s upset loss in South Bend, Ind. To boot, the Tigers were without Jack Clark (illness), their best defensive stopper.

Unsurprisingly, Clemson is 9-1 straight up when Clark is in the starting five. Even with him on the bench, the Tigers manufactured an 85% postgame win probability (per ShotQuality). This nugget insinuates the market may have overvalued Notre Dame, especially if the Irish fail to inject their methodical tempo into this game script. Should North Carolina wind up dictating the pace, Strewberry’s attack frankly isn’t efficient enough to keep up.

Additionally, Notre Dame’s defense ranks in the 13th percentile of percentage of points allowed in the paint over the last month (via CBB Analytics). That trend doesn’t bode well for its chances of impeding UNC center Armando Bacot at the rim.

Haslametrics forecasts a final score of 75.3-60.2. His projection is right in line with the current spread. For more betting insight, subscribe to Outside Shots,’s college basketball podcast.

Where Can You Bet On College Basketball Player Props?

North Carolina, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia Ohio, and West Virginia outlaw betting on college props. Other states match the guidance of banning in-state school prop betting.

Virginia allows betting on in-state schools but not props on in-state players. The remaining states with sportsbooks allow wagering (plus live bets) on college props, including in-state teams.
