UNC College Basketball Betting Odds & Player Props: Will Tar Heels Cover At Syracuse?

UNC Basketball odds: spread, moneyline, total
The Tar Heel State announced North Carolina sports betting apps will go live on March 11 — right in time for March Madness odds.
Can Orange Exploit UNC?
For those who are frequent readers of my posts on UNC basketball odds, you know the drill. The Tar Heels’ perimeter defense was very fortunate over its first nine games in 2024, in which opponents shot 22.5% from behind the arc.
Although they’ve seen a dose of negative regression since then, Miami (FL) failed to take advantage in Saturday’s three-point loss. The Hurricanes combined for a 6-of-23 perimeter showing. Outside of Miami two-guard Nijel Pack, Jim Larrañaga’s bunch missed a bevy of open looks.
That’s not to say the Tar Heels aren’t praiseworthy in any sense. Led by the 6-foot-10 Armando Bacot, they’re an elite rebounding unit at both ends. However, their defense has a fairly low floor the rest of the way — given their 3-point luck and inability to generate turnovers.
Enter Syracuse, manufacturing the second-lowest perimeter clip (31.4%) in ACC play. Plus, it struggles mightily on the glass, especially after Benny Williams‘ dismissal. Unless freshman four-man Chris Bell delivers a monstrous performance from distance, the Orange are unlikely to keep pace with North Carolina’s run-and-gun attack.

Utilizing Power Ratings
Per my college basketball power rankings, these conference foes are separated by a tad below 10 points. After factoring in a slight home-court advantage at the Carrier Dome, the opening spread of UNC -8 appears to be spot on.
Conversely, Haslametrics approximated a final score of 80.8-70.9, favoring UNC basketball odds. Erik Haslam, who owns and operates the analytics site will return to Outside Shots once conference tournaments begin.
