Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay and Luis de la Fuente’s Spain go head-to-head in a huge 2026 FIFA World Cup group game in Zapopan.

The Spaniards are top of Group H on four points and are in pole position to win the group. However, the Uruguayans are just two points behind and have a lot to play for on the final day. Who will prevail at Estadio Akron?

Uruguay vs Spain Picks & Preview

Uruguay have not been at their best in North America, taking just two points from their opening two games. They are the underdogs in the World Cup Group H odds market to finish at the summit, but Bielsa’s boys will fancy their chances of a top-two spot.

Uruguay failed to beat Saudi Arabia on matchday one. The South Americans fell behind in the first half, but Maximiliano Araujo equalised with ten minutes left to spare Uruguay’s blushes.

They took on Cape Verde in game two, conceding the first goal again. However, goals from Araujo and Agustin Canobbio gave Uruguay a half-time lead. The Sky Blue failed to stay in front, though, with Helio Varela levelling on the hour mark.

Cape Verde proved to be a tough nut for Spain to crack, too. La Roja went into their opening fixture as the overwhelming favourites to get the better of the Blue Sharks, but the minnows held the European champions to a goalless draw at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Spain were back at their scintillating best in their second game in North America, hammering Saudi Arabia 4-0 in Atlanta. Lamine Yamal sent them on their way with a tenth-minute goal, while Mikel Oyarzabal bagged a brace.

Spain is many people’s pick to go all the way in the 2026 World Cup. They won UEFA Euro 2024 and have been in great form. A point will be enough, but De la Fuente’s side will be eyeing up a victory in Zapopan.

They have met on many occasions since, but the last World Cup meeting between Uruguay and Spain came at the 1990 tournament in Italy. The game ended in a forgettable goalless draw in Udine.

We are in no danger of a scoreless draw here, as we can see the pair putting on a show on the Mexican turf. Uruguay need the points, but we fancy Spain to edge it – take a punt on 10Bet’s 9/5 for the Spanish win and over 2.5 goals.

Our Prediction: Spain Win & Over 2.5 Goals – 9/5

Uruguay vs Spain Picks & Odds

Spain played like they had a point to prove in their last one. They were toothless against Cape Verde, but the attacking performance against the Saudis was exceptional.

The game was over by half time, with Yamal and Oyarzabal both on target to give La Roja a commanding 3-0 lead at the break. An own goal in the 49th minute added gloss to the scoreline.

We are backing the Euro 2024 champions to be winning at half time and full time again, available at World Cup odds of 29/20.

Our Prediction: Spain HT/FT – 29/20

Uruguay vs Spain Goalscorer Predictions

Yamal looked sharp when he came off the bench against Cape Verde, and he was given a start in game two. It took the Barcelona ace just ten minutes to make an impact against Saudi Arabia.

Going by the latest World Cup Golden Boot odds, Yamal is among the favourites to win the best player of the tournament award. The 18-year-old will no doubt have a huge role to play for Spain in the latter stages of the competition.

Fresh from scoring his first World Cup goal, the winger will be looking to get his name on the scoresheet again. Yamal is priced at 4/1 to open the scoring for the second game running.

Our Prediction: Lamine Yamal to Score First – 4/1
