Spain and Argentina will contest the 2026 FIFA World Cup final from the sensational New York New Jersey Stadium. This will be a fitting final as the current European and world champions go head-to-head on the grandest stage.

The Spaniards are the slight favourites, but this showpiece final in the United States could go either way. In this extensive World Cup final betting preview, we have the latest Spain vs Argentina odds and best bets.

Spain vs Argentina Odds & Preview

Spain made a poor start to their 2026 World Cup campaign, failing to beat minnows Cape Verde. Still, they responded in true champion style, easing past Saudi Arabia and edging out Uruguay to take first place in Group H.

Argentina were one of just three nations to reach the knockout phase by taking maximum points in the group stage. The great Lionel Messi scored his first-ever World Cup hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Algeria in game one. La Albiceleste went on to beat Austria and Jordan in Group J, with Messi scoring three more.

In the Round of 32, Spain went up against Austria, securing a comfortable 3-0 win in Inglewood. Arsenal’s Mikel Merino came off the bench to score a 91st-minute winner against Portugal and was also on target in the 2-1 victory over Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Argentina’s route to the last four was far from straightforward. They edged past Cape Verde after extra time in the last 32 before coming from two goals down against Egypt in the Round of 16. Lionel Scaloni’s side also needed extra time to get past Switzerland in the quarters.

France were many people’s picks to win the World Cup throughout the tournament, but Spain made light work of the 2022 runners-up in the semi-finals. A Mikel Oyarzabal penalty and a Pedro Porro strike gave La Roja a deserved 2-0 win in Texas.

Argentina did it the hard way again, coming from behind to beat Thomas Tuchel’s England in Georgia. The world champions piled the pressure on after Anthony Gordon’s opener, and late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez gave the White and Sky Blue a 2-1 triumph.

This will be the first meeting between the nations since they clashed in a friendly in 2018. Spain were irresistible on that occasion, running out big 6-1 winners. However, the meeting before that went Argentina’s way, as the South Americans won 4-1 in a friendly in 2010.

Spain are making just their second World Cup final appearance and first since winning the competition in South Africa in 2010.

This will be Argentina’s third final in four World Cups. They lost to Germany in the 2014 final but beat France in Qatar four years ago. Can Scaloni’s troops retain the gold this weekend?

Spain vs Argentina Predictions

Spain have been very easy on the eye in North America, while Argentina have dug in and battled their way into yet another final. The pair have contrasting styles, which should make for a thrilling final at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

This Argentina team knows how to get the job done in the big games, but Spain’s quality could get the Europeans over the line in this mouth-watering final. We fancy Luis de la Fuente’s boys to edge it.

Spain vs Argentina Picks

This will be Messi’s final World Cup game in the famous White and Sky Blue jersey. Although we are backing the 39-year-old to be on the losing side, we also fancy the legend to sign off with another World Cup goal.

France's Kylian Mbappe has pulled ahead in the World Cup Golden Boot odds market, scoring twice in the Third-Place game to take his tally to ten. Still, Messi will back himself, and you can get 7/5 for Argentina’s captain to score anytime in this final.

Our Prediction: Lionel Messi to Score Anytime – 7/5
