Manchester United are reportedly on the cusp of signing Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. The Belgium captain is ready to complete his medical and is expected to sign a £36m deal at Old Trafford.

Tielemans had an excellent season for Villa and shone for his national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, will he hit the ground running in Manchester?

Busy Summer at Old Trafford

Since Michael Carrick became the permanent manager of Man United, the Red Devils have been linked with several players.

Carrick did a remarkable job at Old Trafford after taking over from Ruben Amorim on a caretaker basis, guiding United to the UEFA Champions League. However, wholesale changes are expected at Old Trafford before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st.

Tielemans is the latest player to be heading to Manchester, with a medical set to take place in the next 24 hours. He took time to settle in a Villa Park after switching from Leicester City, but the Belgian was a huge player for the Villans last term.

Carrick is allegedly after six to eight new players to bolster his squad. United have already signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50m, with Tielemans also set to join. Many more will come and go over the next few weeks.

Can Man United Be Genuine Title Contenders?

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool are expected to challenge for the Premier League title in the 2026-27 season, but can Man United have a say?

With players like Santos and Tielemans arriving, the Red Devils mean business under Carrick. The new boss had an excellent record last season, guiding Man United to 12 wins from 17 games to fire them into the Champions League.

Overhauling the big three will not be an easy task, but with more big players expected to sign on the dotted line at Old Trafford, can the 20-time English champions put themselves in the mix for the title this season?

Man United kick off their campaign with two games against newly promoted teams, facing Hull City away from home before entertaining Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
