On matchday two of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the action gets underway at BMO Field in Toronto when Canada entertain Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Despite never winning a World Cup game, the Canadians are the bookies’ favourites in this one. However, Bosnia & Herzegovina, who knocked out Italy in the play-offs, are an unpredictable outfit, and anything is possible on the Toronto turf.

Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina Predictions & Preview

Canada are one of the co-hosts in the 2026 World Cup, and Jesse Marsch’s men are looking to cause a few upsets. Their World Cup record is poor, losing six out of six, but can they start with a bang?

Canada will fancy their chances of progressing, and they are the favourites in the World Cup Group B odds market to finish top. Alongside Bosnia & Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland are also in the group. European nations are always tough opponents, while the Qataris are two-time AFC Asian Cup champions.

Bosnia & Herzegovina could be the dark horses in Group B. The Dragons are making their first World Cup appearance since Brazil 2014, where they were eliminated in the group stage. However, they did manage to beat Iran in Group F 12 years ago.

Canada qualified for the World Cup in 2022 for the first time since Mexico 1986. However, they had a tough time in Qatar, suffering defeats to Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco and exiting in the group. They also lost all three games at the World Cup in ’86.

As an individual nation, Bosnia & Herzegovina’s only previous World Cup appearance was in 2014. They failed to qualify for Russia and Qatar, but Sergej Barbarez’s men booked their spot in the 2026 World Cup after beating Wales and Italy in the European play-offs.

These two nations have never met before, which just adds extra spice to this tasty World Cup group clash. Canada are fancied, but Bosnia & Herzegovina will be no pushovers in Toronto.

This is a tough fixture to call, especially as both nations will be desperate to avoid defeat in their opening game. With that in mind, we are backing the pair to play out a score draw at BMO Field, which PricedUp has nicely priced at odds of 4/1.

Our Prediction: Draw & BTTS – 4/1

Canada vs Bosnia & Herzegovina Picks

Bosnia had a fine qualifying campaign, picking up five wins from eight games in Group H to finish second and secure a spot in the play-offs. They then got the better of Craig Bellamy’s Wales in Cardiff before stunning Italy in Zenica.

The evergreen Edin Dzeko rolled back the years, scoring five goals in qualifying Group H and getting the vital equaliser against the Welsh in the play-offs. He turned 40 in March and may not be a potential World Cup Golden Boot winner, but the former Manchester City & Roma striker still has a lot to offer.

Dzeko is Bosnia’s favourite to score in this one, and we are backing the veteran Schalke striker to get his name on the scoresheet in the Golden Lilies’ first World Cup group game in over a decade. Dzeko is available at 11/4 to score anytime.

Our Prediction: Edin Dzeko to Score Anytime – 11/4

In their June friendlies, Canada beat Uzbekistan 2-0 and drew 1-1 with the Republic of Ireland, scoring the opening goal in both games. The Maple Leaf Team are looking to get off to a flyer on home soil, and we fancy the co-hosts to score first at 13/20.

Even though Canada are odds-on to win their opening match, Bosnia & Herzegovina are tough to beat under Babarez, and the European Dragons are certainly capable of causing an upset in Toronto. This fascinating Group B game promises to be a thrilling first-round fixture.

Our Prediction: Canada to Score First – 13/20
