Group C reaches its climax on Wednesday evening, and while Morocco face Haiti, our focus is in Miami, with Brazil vs Scotland representing a crucial match-up for both sides.

Brazil are as good as through, but only a win here will guarantee them top spot in the group and a more favourable knockout draw.

For Scotland, meanwhile, a point would surely be enough to see them through as one of the eight best third-place sides. They were 5/2 for a group stage exit pre-tournament and it’s still very much touch-and-go on that front.

Brazil to Keep Out Blunt Scots

It’s perhaps not much of a surprise to learn that Scotland have never tasted victory against Brazil in ten meetings, dating back to their first match in 1966.

We've seen eight wins and two draws for the Brazilians down the years, and they’ve only conceded three goals to the Scots in those games.

And we’re likely to see a similar tale here. Steve Clarke’s side are resolute at the back but look worryingly short of quality up front, and with a point being enough here, it’s likely to be another defensive assignment against vastly superior opposition.

Yellow Card Opportunities

It’s worth noting that the yellow card window resets after tonight’s match, meaning anybody booked tonight that isn’t currently walking a disciplinary tightrope, doesn’t face a potential suspension in the knockouts.

That gives players much more freedom to get booked tonight, knowing they definitely won’t miss their Round of 32 match.

On the Scotland side, that means avoiding Kenny McLean, Aaron Hickey and Andy Robertson, who are all one booking away from a ban.

However, one man I’ve got my eye on for a card is Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson, who racked up eleven yellows for club and country last season and is sure to be in the thick of it as Brazil push for goals.

Brazil Yet to Find Flow

They might well be top of the group, but it’s fair to say Brazil are warming up rather than firing on all cylinders.

Their win over Haiti had some encouraging flashes, but this is still a side that hasn’t quite hit its straps, so I’m not expecting a total walkover here.

Goals may well be hard to come by. Scotland like to sit in and frustrate the bigger teams, so they could well be a tough nut to crack. In fact, only two of the ten Brazil vs Scotland meetings  have seen over 2.5 goals.

With that in mind, under 2.5 goals looks a decent bet to me at 93/100, but if you think Brazil will hand Scotland a hammering, you might prefer the Brazil win to nil, which gives you a bit more of a return at 11/10 and would confirm Carlo Ancelotti’s men as Group C winners.
