Winston-Salem Open Odds and Tips for 2026: Round One Picks

The ATP Tour is in North Carolina this week, as players put together their final preparations for the US Open, with the final Grand Slam of the year getting underway on Sunday.

We’ll preview Flushing Meadows in the coming days, but for now, our attention is on the Winston-Salem Open, where Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas top the billing.

Winston-Salem Open Odds - Sonego v Kopriva

It hasn’t been a great year for Lorenzo Sonego, with the one-time Australian Open quarter-finalist sliding down the world rankings to number 88, having begun the calendar year inside the top 40.

His last outing was at the ATP 1000 event in Montreal, where he was beaten in straight sets by Tallon Griekspoor in the first round, and as far as the US Open is concerned, the Italian has never gone beyond the second round.

He faces Vit Kopriva this evening, who has continued his steady rise through the rankings and has flirted with the top 50. 12th seed Jiri Lehecka ended his Montreal run last week after a straight sets victory in round one.

Sonega and Kopriva’s only meeting to date was a tight deciding-set win for the Czech player in Marrakech last year and I’m expecting something similar on the hard courts this time around.

Kopriva goes into this one as the slight underdog at 7/5 with Matchbook and I think that’s where the value is.

Kamil Majchrzak v Benjamin Bonzi

It’s been a difficult couple of years for Kamil Majchrzak, who served a 13-month doping suspension and returned to action at the backend of 2023.

But he has grafted his way back into the world’s top 100 and this summer saw him pick up first tour title, with a superb run on the grass at Hertogenbosch that featured wins against Medvedev and Felix Auger-Aliassime, before beating Alex de Minaur in a final-set tie-break in the final.

In North Carolina he faces Benjamin Bonzi, who is going through a bit of a rough patch.

The Frenchman has had a disappointing season and his form going into this week isn’t great, having beaten a top-100 player only once since a first-round win over compatriot Valentin Royer at Indian Wells in March.

It’s a win apiece in the head-to-head, but the tailwind is definitely with the Pole this season and for Winston-Salem Open odds he looks a good bet at 4/6 to win it, and I also like a straight sets (best of 3) 2-0 victory at 7/5.

Adam Walton vs Jesper de Jong

Much of Adam Walton’s success this year has been on the Challenger circuit, which featured a run to the final in Newport on the grass in July. On the ATP tour, though, he has struggled recently, losing in round one in Montreal and Los Cabos - both on hard courts.

The world number 98 faces Jesper de Jong, who has floated in and out of the top 100 for most of his career.

But the Dutchman has had a great summer. The 26-year-old beat Stan Wawrinka and Karen Khachanov on his way to the Fourth Round at Roland Garros, before picking up a Challenger Tour title in Cattolica a fortnight later.

He returns from a four-week break at Winston-Salem, and with the US Open just around the corner, I think that extra freshness will count for something, with Walton perhaps keeping one eye on New York.
