It's Day 3 of Royal Ascot and Ed Quigley is on hand to serve up his three best value plays for what should be a spectacular day of action on Thursday...

Royal Ascot 3.05 - Tierra Del Toro e/w

Wathan Racing have already had a successful week, and they could easily be set for more glory here with the exciting Tierra Del Torro. The Ralph Beckett trained runner made a pleasing seasonal reappearance at Newbury, when third on Handicap debut, looking as though he needed the run, but the way he stayed on stoutly to the line over 10f, suggests that the step up in trip for today's encounter should be tailor-made for him. Off a mark of 97, he should have a lot more to offer, especially now as his stamina has been drawn out for this race. The yard have a good record in this - the Beckett team have won two of the last five renewals, and they will be looking for more success with Tierra Del Torro who looks a solid each-way player in what looks a wide-open and fiercely competitive encounter.

Royal Ascot 4.15 - Carmers e/w

On paper this race revolves around Scandinavia who will be warm order for this, and will be looking to make it six wins on the bounce. In truth he should take a lot of beating. Something has to hit the frame and follow him home, and there is always a chance of an upset in any case, so I will be keeping on Carmers who looks more than capable of running a big race at massive odds. Paddy Twomey is a shrewd operator and he has earmarked this race for sometime, and he comes here as a lively each-way player. Although Scandinavia has had the upperhand in recent clashes, let's not forget that Carmers got the better of the Ballydoyle representative in the Queen's Vase at last year's Royal Meeting. Connections popped a visor on Carmers for a Listed race at Down Royal last time out, and he showed much more of the old speak and ran out a very comfortable winner. He has to prove he stays, but has winning Royal Ascot form on the CV and it would be far from a shock if he were to get involved at the business end of proceedings in a race which could easily cut up to a small field on the day.

Royal Ascot 5.35 - Glacius e/w

I'm going to have an each-way swing at the Hugo Palmer trained GLACIUS who is a fascinating contender coming here on his seasonal reappearance tomorrow, as some of his form from last season is really stacking up. He won a minor event on debut, but it is his next start that reads particularly well, as he was a staying on fourth behind Bow Echo, and that form has been franked in no uncertain terms. From his running style combined with his pedigree, I expect this step up to 10f to bring about further improvement, and he looks more than capable of making his presence felt at Group 3 level. Underfoot conditions should be spot on for him, so there will be no excuses on that front. Billy Loughnane has been in good form this week and takes the ride on this colt who can run well for each-way backers.
