Horse Racing Tips Today – Ed Quigley’s Best Bets for Tuesdays 5 May
It's Tuesday, and Ed Quigley is back with his best bets for the day's action at competitive cards at Ffos Las and Hereford...
Ffos Las 4.18 - The Boola Boss
It is hard to look past the claims of the in-form The Boola Boss, in the race coined as the 'Sean Bowen Champion Jockey Handicap Chase'. Bowen takes the ride on The Boola Boss for the Rebecca Curtis team, and the revitalised 10-year-old looks to have very solid claims of making back to back victories after bolting up at Chepstow recently. A sound surface suits, so conditions should be spot-on for the gelding who will have to find a bit more improvement under a 5lb hike, but looks to be in rude health at present and has the assistance of Bowen in the saddle.
He takes on a few out-of-sorts individuals and so should be capable of running a big race once again despite his inflated mark. He likes to be ridden prominently to imagine Bowen will have him sitting up with the best and get his mount in a good jumping rhythm. An Official mark of 117 shouldn't be enough to stop him if he is on-song, and this combination look to have the most solid profile in this 3m Handicap Chase at Class 4 level.
Hereford 5.42 - Maximum Offers
Jamie Snowden and Gavin Sheehan are a combination who have been in cracking form for some time now, and with the Upper Lambourn yard still firing in the winners, they look to have a great opportunity of landing the spoils once again with the lightly-raced Chaser Maximum Offers. The 7-year-old got off the mark for the first time over fences last time out when winning by 35 lengths over Course and Distance. His task was made straightforward when one of his two rivals unseated, but nonetheless it was an impressive victory.
He likes going right-handed, and trip and ground will be spot on. He is giving weight away to rivals in a more competitive looking affair, but his jumping seems to have really perked up since the cheek pieces were applied. If attacking his obstacles with the same zest once again, he could prove a tough nut to crack and gets the vote from me in this trappy looking encounter.
Hereford 7.17 - American Sniper
I am going to take a chance on American Sniper bouncing back to form here, as he drops down in Grade for this Class 4 event. You have to go back to 2023 for the last time the 8-year-old was running in at this level, as he has mainly been plying his trade in much tougher assignments than this, so having to shoulder top-weight in this Grade shouldn't be an issue for the David Pipe trained representative. His two wins in Handicap company have come off BHA marks of 122 and 120 respectively, so getting race again off the latter rating here means he shouldn't have a problem in getting in the mix if he brings his best foot forwards.
This horse has fought in much tougher battles than this during his pomp, including when running at major Festivals, and has managed to score some valuable prizes, including at Cheltenham and Newbury in the past at Class 2 level. Jack Tudor is back in the saddle, and this combination can stamp their authority on the field with underfoot conditions to suit where the horse looks fairly treated from the acccessor.
