Horse Racing Tips Today – Ed Quigley’s Best Bets for Tuesday 28 April
The 2026 Punchestown Festival is here, and Ed Quigley is on hand to serve up his best wagers for the opening day of action...
All prices correct as of 8.12am, on 28 April 2026 via PricedUp.
Punchestown 3.40 - Khrisma e/w
Khrisma was a bit unlucky in a Handicap Hurdle at Kelso last time out, where she was looking ready to make a move until she made a mess of the second-last flight of Hurdles and it put pay to any chance she had, and subsequently she was pulled up afterwards. Traditionally she is a strong traveller, and it isn't hard to envisage her running a big race here, where the likely generous pace in a big field scenario should suit. As long as she is spot-on in the jumping department, she shapes as just the type who can prove better than a mark of 128. Harry Cobden will be doing the steering for the red-hot Nicky Henderson team, and this combination looks the value angle here.
Punchestown 4.15 - Eachtotheirown e/w
Eachtotheirown was thrown in the deep end to a large extent, when contesting the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last month, but he was far too keen and lit up in the prelims, and that translated to the course when he over-raced at the head of affairs before weakening in the closing stages. He wore a hood to post on that occasion, but the hood will be retained for the race itself here, and if he can settle on the front end, he should have a lot more to offer. It could be a fruitful day for the Barry Connell stable, and this unexposed 7-year-old can get in the mix from an each-way perspective.
Punchestown 4.50 - Kitzbuhel
Kitzbuhel is all class, and demonstrated that he wasn't just a flat track bully when jumping superbly to win the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Earlier in the season he had put in an exhibition of jumping to land Grade 1 honours at Kempton Park over the Christmas period, where his ability to get from A to B in slick fashion often turns the screw on his rivals. He is also unbeaten at this track having scored on his two previous visits to the venue, and it will take a mega performance from something to get past him. Kappa Jy Pyke is of interest stepping up to three miles, and he looks the biggest danger on paper to his stable mate.
Punchestown 6.05 - Marine Nationale
This looks an absolute belter, and on paper this is one of the clashes of the week. Il Etait Temps will be tough to beat if arriving in the same form he showed when bolting up at the Cheltenham Festival, and in regards to Majborough it depends which version of the 6-year-old turns up, as his jumping fell apart last time out. With the sun shining, the 2025 Champion Chase winner and the winner of this race 12 months ago was Marine Nationale and with the prospect of some proper spring ground, he looks to have a major claims of returning to winning ways. He loves this venue winning all three starts here, and underfoot conditions should be tailor made for him. The gelding was forced to miss a trip to Prestbury Park this year with a small setback, but should be spot-on for this, and a big run is on the cards with Sean Flanagan in the saddle.
