There is plenty of action on Tuesday, and Ed Quigley is here to serve up his best bets for the afternoon at Yarmouth and Pontefract.

Pontefract 2.52 - Alaminos

Alaminos won in smart style at Thirsk on his debut last August despite looking a bit green and a little restless in the prelims. However, he powered clear when the button was pushed inside the closing stages to end up winning with a bit up his sleeve. The Pinatubo colt then was pitched into a better race on his next start - a Class 3 at Haydock, where he just looked a bit too raw. He was keen throughout the early exchanges of what was a small-field, tactical battle and the way the race panned out probably didn't suit him on that occasion.

He has been given time to mature subsequently, and reappears here in Handicap on his first start as a 3-year-old. Off a mark of 82, he is open to any amount of improvement, and this unexposed sort should have plenty more to offer. It is worth noting that the collateral form of the Haydock race isn't looking too shabby, with the winner going on to score twice, including once at Listed level, so with hindsight, Alaminos probably didn't fare badly in a hot race, and can put that experience to good use here. Kevin Stott takes the ride for the Kevin Ryan team, and this combination look to have major claims here.

Yarmouth 3.10 - Room Fourteen e/w

I'm going to give the vote to Room Fourteen here, who has untapped potential in this grade. The filly goes into Handicap company for the first time, as well as making her debut on turf as she steps up to 10f for the first time. Her running style suggests that the step up to this distance can bring about further improvement, and it is interesting to see that the Fanshawe team opt to put the hood on for the first time.

If you look at her last two starts at Lingfield and Wolverhampton respectively, she has produced a similar performance; looking a little keen early doors before staying on well inside the hard yards. She wore the hood just down to post last time out, but now it is on for the race itself. Granted a nice gallop over this trip, I can see her making real strides in this Grade, and I like her chances with Daniel Muscutt taking the ride.

Pontefract 3.27 - Savvy Victory

Sean Woods has his string in good nick at the moment, and it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that Savvy Victory can get back in the winner's enclosure here. The 7-year-old has been a little frustrating in recent times, where he doesn't appear to quite get the rub of the green, but he has a lot of positives heading into this assignment. Mainly the drop in Grade and easing in the weights; he came up short as a 40/1 poke at Listed level last time out on the comeback trail after a break, but there was no disgrace in that performance given who we was up against, and so he sees himself in much calmer waters here back in Handicap company.

His last win was off a mark of 104, so he is starting to look dangerously well treated off 98 back in a Class 2. Throw in the fact he won on his only previous start over Course and Distance, and there are plenty of reasons to believe he can bounce back to winning ways on this occasion.

Yarmouth 3.45 - Bill PlumbBill

Plumb has produced a couple of lacklustre efforts on the all-weather in recent times, but I am prepared to overlook those given the strength of his form when running at this venue. The 7-year-old has form figures at the track of 311, and for whatever reason, seems to come alive over this course and distance. Infact, his last victory came over C&D last October, and that win was off a BHA mark of 69 - the same rating as today, so the Handicapper is giving the gelding every chance of reclaiming former glories here.

He is versatile in regards to underfoot requirements, including on the forecast fast ground which he should encounter here. Luke Morris takes the ride, and a return to form would be far from a shock with a lot of factors in his favour.
