Horse Racing Tips Today – Ed Quigley’s Best Bets for Tuesday 12 May
Ed Quigley was in majestic form at the weekend, including smashing in a 20/1 winner at Ascot, and his back with his best bets for Tuesday's action...
Beverley 4.00 - Without Flaw e/w
As you would expect, we have a wide-open looking encounter, where a case can be made for some familiar visitors to the course, and it will most likely be a case of fine margins being the deciding factor in this grade. Beerwah won snuggly last time out and is the ne they will all be aiming at, but off a mark of 60, it will officially require a career-best effort to land the spoils Without Flaw is an individual who has flourished at his venue in the past, with two Course and Distance wins on the CV from just three starts. The 5-year-old Mare has been winless since last summer, but has shown signs lately that she is coming back to the boil, courtesy of her third-place finish at Wetherby last month on the back of a 170-day absence. She showed up well on that occasion and that gives her plenty to build upon returning to her favourite venue. Off a mark of 59, she is more than capable of getting involved from her current rating and she has a lovely draw in stall 2. Warren Fentiman takes the ride and claims 3lb for the Tina Jackson stable, and this combination look to have major claims of getting involved at the business end of proceedings here.
Hereford 4.10 - Campaign Trail
The market will most likely be keen on Catwalk Girl courtesy of her 12 length win over fences last at Huntingdon 5 days, but I think she was a bit flattered by that result in a race that fell apart. In any case, she looked a rejuvenated character over the larger obstacles, and although potentially well treated, she has got to prove that she can back up that effort back over Hurdles here. I think she could be vulnerable, and I am going to take her on with the Kim Bailey trained Campaign Trail. The 6-year-old has been running well without getting his head in front in recent times, but I thought he looked guaranteed to run his race with conditions to suit, and the fact he was thoroughly unexposed as a stayer over Hurdles. Tom Bellamy takes the ride for a yard who have had lots of runners, but have been amongst the winners lately, and it would be far from a shock if Campaign Trail really served it up to his four rivals.
Bath 4.23 - Prodigal Son
This is a race full of improving sorts, but I like the look of the Heather Main trained Prodigal Son who responded well to the application of first-time blinkers last time out to win convincingly at this venue over 1m. The step back up in trip, quick ground, and headgear all combined nicely to see the grey gelding stride clear. The visual perspective of that victory suggests that the step up to today's 10f assignment should really suit, and could easily unlock much more improvement. Providing he settles throughout the early exchanges he looks like he could be capable of defying a 5lb rise in the weights, and his pedigree suggests that he can flourish over this extra distance. Rossa Ryan is in the saddle, and it isn't hard to envisage him producing Prodigal Son late after sitting off the pace, coming with a strong finishing effort inside the hard yards. I think he could be the value play with untapped potential in this scenario.
