Ed Quigley is back as he looks at some of the big races on Saturday, and serves up his best bets on the cards on what should be a cracking afternoon of action at Sandown and York...

Sandown 2.42 - Lady Youmzain e/w

This is all about the speedsters, as we have Listed action over the minimum trip in the Scurry Stakes, and we have an interesting conundrum. Words Of Truth is the class angle in the ace but has to defy a 155-day absence, and has been drawn unfavourably in stall 7, which similar to a track like Chester is a big inconvenience. Therefore, there are a few individuals in this assignment that you can make a case for, and with a lovely draw in stall 3, I am interested in the Kevin Ryan trained Lady Youmzain who looks a live each-way player here. She came unstuck at Haydock at this Level, but I think they may have just had the trip wrong. That was over 6f and she showed brazen speed - I think the drop back in trip to this stiff 5f should be ideal for her, as she shows plenty of early toe. She is still thoroughly unexposed, and with her aforementioned handy draw, she is well positioned to attack. Kevin Stott takes the ride, and this combination looks to hold solid each-way claims in a wide-open looking race where her natural pace might just get a few of these in trouble throughout the early fractions of the contest - especially those from a poor draw trying to make up ground from off the pace.

York 3.00 - Mount Atlas

We have a trappy little race at Listed level on the Knavesmire, where you can't rule out anything with real confidence. However, I think this can go the way of Mount Atlas, who ran a good race from a poor draw when runner-up last time out, and should be on the premises once again here. He is a strong traveller, and the make-up of this race at York should see him tank into contention, with Will Buick having been booked for the ride. This 5-year-old is thoroughly unexposed over this distance and could easily have more to offer in this scenario. He had Al Qareem behind him last time out, and so I think he looks more than capable of seeing off that challenger once again in receipt of weight this time around, representing the Andrew Balding team who have been amongst the winners lately.

Sandown 3.17 - Beagle Bay

This is a golden opportunity for the Ralph Beckett trained Beagle Bay to continue his progress, and I think this lightly-raced 4-year-old should have a great chance of adding more glory to the roster here. He is thoroughly unexposed, and this son of New Bay powered clear to win easily over 7f at Yarmouth last time out, hitting the line full of running. That was his handicap debut, and that performance hasn't been missed by the assessor who has shunted him up 9lbs as a consequence, but we are far from seeing the ceiling of this individual's ability one imagines. Given the way in which he really stretched out inside the closing stages, the visual perspective blended with pedigree suggests that this step up to a mile can unlock further improvement and he gets the nod from me with Hector Crouch on board. It is also worth noting that the collateral form of his Yarmouth win received a significant boost, as the runner-up (who was put well in his place) has subsequently gone on to win since. Therefore the form looks robust, and Beagle Bay shouldn't be far away here.

Sandown 3.55 - Sticktoyourguns

We have a Class 3 7f Handicap here, and I like the look of previous Course and Distance winner Sticktoyourguns who looked potentially smart on debut before finishing second at Newbury in a Novice when last seen. A return to this venue is a massive tick in the box, and has to be taken seriously here given that the collateral form of both previous starts is working out really well. The colt goes Handicapping for the first time, and could have plenty to offer from a mark of 87, given that he is totally untapped in this grade and no doubt Owen Burrows will have him tuned up to go well fresh after a 266-day lay off. Callum Rodriguez takes the ride, and I wouldn't be shocked if a bold show was on the cards and this combination got involved at the business end of proceedings. Stall 2 only enhances this individual's claims and if any rain does arrive it won't be an inconvenience.
