Horse Racing Tips Today – Ed Quigley’s Best Bets for Epsom Oaks on Thursday 4 June
Ed Quigley was on the money once again on Tuesday, and is back with his best bets for Epsom's Oaks card on Friday as Classic action rolls into town...
Epsom 2.40 - Persica
Lightly-raced 5-year-old Persica absolutely adores Epsom and can win this race for the second successive year. He ran on strongly from off the pace to grab this contest 12 months ago and looks primed for another big performance at a track in which he has an unblemished record of two wins from two starts. He finished fourth in the Earl Of Sefton at Newmarket on his comeback run in April, and that should have him spot on for this. He clearly enjoys Epsom's quirks, and he should be right in the shake-up once again. Sean Levey takes the ride on the Richard Hannon trained individual who looks to have major claims of enhancing his excellent track record here. Any juice in the ground won't be a problem for him, and if anything it will suit him more than some of the other contenders in here.
Epsom 4.00 - K Sarra e/w
We have a belting renewal of The Oaks, and I am really looking forward to this one. Amelia Earhart sets the standard and it is hard not to envisage a scenario where the Ballydoyle representative isn't in the shake-up arriving on the back of an impressive win in the Cheshire Oaks. However, I think there are plenty of Fillies with lots of potential to get in the mix here with the likes of Legacy Link and Thundering On being protagonists who are more than capable of having plenty to say in this Group 1 encounter. However, at a much bigger price, the joker in the pack could be the Ralph Beckett trained K Sarra. She produced a no-show on her comeback run over 7f in the Fred Darling, where she looked thoroughly out-paced and in need of the outing. Next up was the Musidora where was third to the aforementioned Legacy Link where she stepped up to an extended 10f for the first time, and even on that occasion she looked to lack the gears but stayed on fairly stoutly inside the final furlong, and she was gaining on the winner at the finish. She has her stamina drawn out once again here, and I can only see that aiding her cause. On raw form she has a bit to find, but if this turns into a bit of a slog it could easily suit the filly. She's a daughter of New Bay who didn't mind the mud, so any rain that arrives shouldn't be an inconvenience for her. She looks as though she should flourish over the 1m4f trip and gets the each-way vote from me with the excellent Rossa Ryan in the saddle.
Epsom 5.15 - Postmodern e/w
This looks a wide-open looking encounter, and I am going to take a chance on the Wathan Racing representative, Postmodern. This is a very lightly-raced sort who has shown some very good form in defeat since winning on debut at Yarmouth last year and is a fascinating contender with James Doyle in the saddle. The hood goes on for the first time, and he shapes as though this step up to 7f could easily unlock more improvement. It's a race in which you can make a case for a few individuals here, but I think Postmodern has untapped potential, and could be up to landing a blow at Listed level.
