Horse Racing Tips: Perfect Your Craft Looks is the One to Beat at 5/2 on Wednesday, 8/7
It's Wednesday and Ed Quigley is back with his best Horse Racing Tips for all the action. Yarmouth takes centre stage, and we have competitive action at Catterick, as well as a Group 3 prize at Fairyhouse in the evening.
Wednesday's Horse Racing Tips for July 8: Perfect Your Craft looks perfect for Punters at Fairyhouse...
Catterick 2.00 - Filey Beach
Filey Beach adores the venue and should benefit from a return to this track where he has been successful on three previous occasions...
Filey Beach didn't run badly when third on the all-weather at Wolverhampton last time out, but should be revitalised by the return to this Course and Distance, as the 5-year-old has an outstanding record over this trick and trap. The gelding has three wins from four starts in this scenario, so has got to be taken very seriously here where the horse comes alive. This nice 7f trip suits well. Trying to defy a BHA mark of 59 demands more, and at some stage the accessor will start to get the better of the Ruth Carr trained individual, but for now I am siding with Taryn Langley's mount to get the job done at the happy hunting ground for Filey Beach.
Yarmouth 3.45 - Hollywell Stream
Hollywell Bay was given a patient ride last time out and should have more to offer in this Maiden ...
Hollywell Bay has had the three starts to date, and showed a much improved display when runner-up in a Doncaster Novice last time out, when stepped up to 10f for the first time. She travelled well and appeared to really enjoy the step up in distance, staying on strongly inside the closing stages to only be beaten a neck. Arguably the waiting tactics were over-done, even though it was only a four-runner field, and I would be surprised if William Buick doesn't make more use of this fillies' stamina now that he comes in for the ride. In time, it is easy to envisage her running well in 12f Handicaps, but for now this looks a perfectly suitable assignment for the Jane Chapple-Hyam trained representative. Waterford Castle sets the standard and could prove tough to beat, but is a little bit more exposed than my selection who doesn't have masses of improvement to find and is more than capable of getting involved at the business end of proceedings here.
Fairyhouse 6.50 - Perfect Your Craft
Perfect Your Craft has a little bit to find on ratings but looks ready for this step up in trip...
We have the Group 3 Stanerra Stakes for the Fillies' and Mares, and this is a tricky race to try and sort out. On paper, Goodie Two Shoes has a fair bit in hand, but it was a lacklustre run last time out and so I would be reluctant to weigh-in at potentially odds-on about the 7-year-old, for all that on official figures she is more than capable of outclassing her rivals here. However, I think the value play is the Paddy Twomey trained Perfect Your Craft, who steps up in trip for the first time. The former Ralph Beckett trained charge looks as though she will relish the extra distance here today, and could easily serve it up to the protagonists on this occasion. Billy Lee is in the saddle, and this combination look to have a serious chance of getting involved at the business end of proceedings in what should be an excellent race to watch.
