Horse Racing Tips: Ed Quigley’s Warwick Best Bets for Tuesday, 22 September

We have a plethora of jumps action to get us excited on a Tuesday, and Ed Quigley is here to share his horse racing tips for both racecourses.

Warwick and Fontwell return, so fans of the National Hunt game are in for a treat, and we have some competitive-looking heats with some powerful yards on display.

The Skelton juggernaut will look to keep things rolling in pursuit of Martin Pipe's record, which has stood for 27 years. We should have some lovely jumping ground and some exciting action to get stuck into.

Handicap Chase Tips - 3m1f - Class 3 (3.40 at Warwick)

We have just the quartet due to go to post for this Handicap Chase over the extended 3m1f, and I think this looks like a trappy little encounter.

All four individuals have the form in the book which entitles them to be in the winner's enclosure if they put their best foot forward. So despite the field, it looks a bit of a puzzle, and I will take a chance with the Christian Williams-trained FEVER DREAM returning to best form here. The 8-year-old blows hot and cold, but enjoys flat, left-handed tracks on a sound surface, and as a previous winner at this venue, he is more than capable of taking this if he brings his A-game to the table. Fever Dream has a good record when fresh and arrives here after more wind surgery; he has won off the back of a wind op in the past, and off the back of a layoff, so you can't use that as a negative – if anything, that should have him spot on for today's encounter. He is getting lumps of weight off his three rivals, and Charlie Maggs claims a further 3lb.

Of the others, they all have chances on their best form. Ki Woo is in great form, but a career-best effort will be required to defy an official mark of 133. Dunkerque has been in cracking form, but there will be questions raised over his stamina as he tackles this trip north of 3m for the first time, and then that leaves Snipe, who is a bit of an enigma.

It should be a fascinating contest, and I think they could be the value play for a yard that has a habit of snatching nice prizes.

Ed Quigley's Next Best Bet for Tuesday: Starshine Legend

STARSHINE LEGEND showed a massive upturn in form when bolting up at Worcester last time out when he wasn't remotely fancied as a 14/1 shot. The 5-year-old had only shown moderate form until stepping up in trip to 2m4f on Handicap debut last time out, and looked a totally different proposition sporting first-time cheekpieces. He won by the best part of five lengths under a power-packed Sean Bowen ride, and looked as though he had stacks in hand at the finish given how strongly he hit the line.

This isn't a strong race, and there should be much more to come from the Olly Murphy charge off a 7lb higher mark, with ground to suit as he steps up in trip further to this extended 2m5f. I can see him seeing out 3m sooner rather than later, and he shouldn't be found wanting for stamina here over a trip which should unlock even more improvement.

I like the claims of this combination winning once more, with underfoot conditions suited to this unexposed individual.
