2m4f Handicap Hurdle Prediction: 3.30 Race on Tuesday

We have a healthy field size for this competitive heat, where some familiar names are making the line-up ahead of this Class 4 Handicap at Uttoxeter on Tuesday over the intermediate trip of 2m4f. There are some in-form former winners in the race, in the shape of Tommy Cullen, Phantom Gold, and hat-trick-seeking Royal Rhythm. The latter is really going through the gears, and is unpenalised for winning a Conditional Jockeys event at Fontwell nine days ago and is a big danger to all representing the O'Neill team. The ground is looking on the lively side of good, with very little rain forecast, so being able to act in these conditions will be key.

GLANCE OF GLORY is an individual who has the ability to win this, as he returns to the track after disappointing at Ascot 170 days ago. Subsequently, he has undergone a wind operation, and if that has sorted things out, then he has the credentials to strike here, as he was very good in the early part of last season. Whilst he is 'fresh', it may be the time to strike. Underfoot conditions should be fine for the Martin Keighley-trained gelding, and the drop back in trip to this 2m4f distance should be no issue – if anything, it should aid his cause coming into this. Jockey supremo Sean Bowen is in the saddle, and this combination could easily get involved at the business end of proceedings as the assessor has eased this unexposed 6-year-old back down to an NHA rating of 105, and off that mark he looks fairly treated based on last season's exploits. He is a strong stayer at the trip, and all being well, he will be staying on dourly inside the hard yards when the others have cried enough.

Of the others, keep an eye on top-weight Maghlaak at an each-way price. The 7-year-old has his quirks, but he was a fair performer for Shadwell back in the day, and is starting to look well handicapped based on his Chase form. He is a little bit of a law unto himself, but is just the type of individual who will pop up when he is in the mood, and has the ability to strike with plenty in his favour for the Mark Walford team. The aforementioned Phantom Gold has switched yardspered to show improvement when upped in trip to this distance at Worcester last time out, and naturally has to make any shortlist for this encounter.

Ed Quigley's Next Best Bet for Uttoxeter: Diesel Line at 4.30

I am going to roll the dice here with last year's winner DIESEL LINE, who surely would have had this target in mind for some time, and can go well for each-way backers in this Class 5 Handicap Hurdle over 2m. He shot up the weights after getting the job done in this race 12 months ago, but looks to have everything in his favour once again here as underfoot conditions will suit, and he has slipped back down the weights to a mark of 90 – the same rating as when winning this last year.

The 8-year-old can put up a bold show in trying to defend his crown, with Charlie Todd taking the ride for the Pogson team, looking to enhance a terrific course record, which reads two wins and two placed efforts from just five starts at the venue.
