Horse Racing Tips: Ed Quigley's Glorious Goodwood Best Bets for Tuesday, July 28 - Qirat Picks
It's Tuesday, but it is far from an ordinary one, as Glorious Goodwood 2026 is here! We are set for 5 days of incredible action and Ed Quigley, who has been firing in the winners lately, is in the hot seat here to give his best bets for what should be a wonderful afternoon of action on the opening day of the famous meeting.
Tuesday's Horse Racing Tips for July 28: Qirat enjoys the venue and can win once again, and Amiloc is always one to be feared at the Sussex venue...
Goodwood 2.25 - Ruler's Control
Joseph O'Brien's charge ran well at Royal Ascot and can flourish now upped to 7f...
Ruler's Control represents the Joseph O'Brien team, who continue to fire in the winners, and they looks to have very solid claims here with this lightly-raced colt. The tongue-tie goes on for the first time, and he also steps up to tackle 7f. Fourth in the Windsor Castle Stakes over 6f last time out, he gave the impression that he would be happier over a longer trip, and connections explore that possibility here. Pedigree suggests that he should thrive over this distance and the yard have been punching at about a 30% strike-rate for the last fortnight. James Doyle takes the ride, and they will be breaking from stall 4. I wouldn't be shocked if this combination were involved at the business end of proceedings.
Goodwood 3.00 - Qirat
Qirat caused one of the biggest shocks of all time last season, but there would be no fluke if he were to win this encounter...
Qirat won the 2025 Sussex at odds of 150/1 in one all the all-time great upsets, but he comes into the Lennox Stakes with major claims, boasting three wins from three starts at the track, and has an unblemished record of two wins from two starts over this Course and Distance specifically. The Ralph Beckett team have a good record in this race and will be looking to enhance it here with this quirky sort who clearly fires on all cylinders at this venue. Qirat showed he isn't just a one-trick pony however, when bolting up at York last time out dropped back to 7f and having the tongue-tie applied for the first time. I think he can give Lake Forest plenty to think about here and should go well with Collin Keane in the saddle.
Goodwood 3.35 - Amiloc e/w
Amiloc has stamina to prove, but shapes as though a step up to this distance can unlock more of his potential...
Amiloc steps up in distance to 2m for this first time, and although he needs to take a big step forwards, he has shaped as though the extra taxation on his stamina should really suit him. He has underwhelmed so far this season, but providing he settles he could have plenty more to offer here. The Ralph Beckett trained 4-year-old has won both his previous starts at Glorious Goodwood and is very happy on fast underfoot conditions. The Ralph Beckett team have been amongst the winners latelly, and the return to the idiosyncratic Goodwood track should really suit this unexposed sort. Hector Crouch takes the ride, and it would be far from a surprise if this combination were capable of hitting the frame at an each-way price. Scandinavia and Trawlerman take up a huge chunk of the market and I think there is a bit of value to be had elsewhere.
