Betfred Doncaster Cup Stakes Predictions - 2m2f - Group 2 (3.00 Race)

There are eight runners due to take their chance in this Group 2 for the Stayers, and perhaps compared to previous years, this doesn't look the deepest of encounters. I really like the claims made by the Ballydoyle representative here, Queenstown. This 6-year-old gelding is unexposed over marathon trips, and arrives here in good form after winning a Group 3 at The Curragh last time out after 300 days off the track. Queenstown was behind old rival Caballo De Mar when they met in last year's Cadran, but looks like a different animal arriving in this contest — and is in receipt of 5lb from the George Scott runner.

Queenstown should thrive over trip and ground, and Ryan Moore will be confident of a bold show here. In regards to Caballo De Mar, connections reach for the first-time tongue-tie to assist the blinkers, but it was an alarmingly stale run on the Knavesmire last month, where he could only manage 4th in the Lonsdale Cup. He has quite a lot on his plate here, trying to concede weight all round. The joker in the pack here could be the Emmet Mullins-trained Winday. The ex-French runner absolutely hacked up in a Ffos Las maiden on stable debut and is thrown in the deep end here. The booking of William Buick only heightens confidence, and this unexposed sort could have plenty to say here.

Of the remainder, the 102-rated Berkshire Sundance has plenty of stamina and should get involved in the shake-up here. The 6-year-old ran well in a Goodwood Handicap last time out and won't be found wanting for stamina, though he probably lacks a touch of class to operate at this level. Epic Poet isn't far behind the protagonists on ratings, and therefore, if he puts his best foot forward, he is more than capable of getting involved at the business end of proceedings. The downside would be that he hasn't won a race since January 2025 and has thrown in a few lacklustre efforts in the time since then.

We have a Handicap for the Fillies here, and Silver Lake represents Wathnan Racing, William Haggas, and one of the hottest jockeys in Europe at the moment, James Doyle.

This combination have got to be feared as Silver Lake looks to continue her progress and arrives here looking to complete a 4-timer. Obviously, things are getting tougher now that she is firing her way up the Handicap ranks, but it looks as though there is plenty more in the tank.

Her winning sequence started in July at Salisbury on Handicap debut off a mark of 75, sporting a first-time tongue-tie. Since then, she has rattled up a hat-trick, defying marks of 77 and 86 subsequently, and now has to try to shake off the shackles racing on Town Moor off a mark of 92. Whether the 6lb hike is enough, who knows, but there could easily be more to come now that she is upped in trip to 1m4f for the first time. She needed every yard of 1m2f on the Knavesmire three weeks ago, and from a visual perspective, she looks tailor-made for this assignment. It's a hot race, but she looks up to the task in my view, with underfoot conditions that will suit.
