After a dramatic qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring, here are our F1 Austrian Grand Prix tips and predictions ahead of Sunday's race in Spielberg.

Saturday's qualifying delivered one of the most dramatic sessions of the season, with George Russell snatching pole position after Max Verstappen crashed during the closing stages of Q3.

The Red Bull driver had looked on course to challenge for the front row before his accident brought out yellow flags, forcing several drivers to abandon their final laps.

Russell was later investigated for his response to the incident but was judged to have slowed sufficiently, meaning he retained a brilliant pole position.

Ferrari also enjoyed an excellent afternoon, locking out second and third on the grid with Charles Leclerc edging team-mate Lewis Hamilton by less than a tenth of a second.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli starts fourth for Mercedes, while Verstappen will line up fifth after a frustrating end to qualifying at his team's home circuit.

McLaren's hopes of victory have become more complicated, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri only sixth and seventh despite showing promising pace throughout the weekend.

With overtaking opportunities into Turns 3 and 4, combined with warm conditions and multiple strategy options, Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix promises another fascinating battle.

Austrian Grand Prix Prediction

The fight for victory looks incredibly close, but Russell has given himself the perfect opportunity by securing pole, and is the clear favourite with most UK betting sites.

Mercedes have looked competitive throughout the weekend, and track position could prove crucial around Spielberg, particularly if Russell makes a clean getaway into the opening corner.

Ferrari are unlikely to be far away, however. Both Leclerc and Hamilton have demonstrated strong race pace in recent events and should remain firmly in contention throughout the afternoon.

Verstappen's recovery drive also adds another intriguing storyline. Starting fifth may leave him with too much work to do for victory, but the Dutchman has the pace to climb through the field if strategy falls his way.

Predicted podium: George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc

Austrian Grand Prix Race Tips

All odds taken from Betnero at 08:00 UK time on Sunday, 28 June 2026.

George Russell To Win - 2.27

Our first selection is George Russell to convert pole position into victory.

The Mercedes driver produced a superb lap under pressure to secure P1 and now has clean air heading into Turn 1.

Around the Red Bull Ring, controlling the race from the front can be a huge advantage, and Russell has every chance to capitalise if he manages the opening stint effectively.

At odds of 2.27, the pole-sitter represents excellent value.

Max Verstappen Fastest Lap - 10.00

Next, we are backing Max Verstappen to record the fastest lap of the race.

Although starting fifth leaves him with work to do, Verstappen is likely to spend much of the afternoon pushing hard through the field.

Should Red Bull opt for an aggressive late pit stop, fresh tyres could give the reigning champion the perfect opportunity to set the quickest lap.

And at 10.00, this bet represents superb value at a track where the Dutch driver is notoriously quick and will have a point to prove on Sunday.

Lewis Hamilton To Beat Charles Leclerc - 2.25

Our final selection is Lewis Hamilton to finish ahead of Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton arrives in Austria full of confidence after his victory in Barcelona and continues to look increasingly comfortable in the Ferrari.

Starting directly behind Leclerc also gives him an immediate opportunity to challenge into the opening laps.

Given Hamilton's experience, race craft and tyre management over a Grand Prix distance, backing him to finish ahead of his team-mate at odds of 2.25 looks well worth considering.
