With Formula 1 returning to the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, here are our Belgian GP qualifying tips and predictions ahead of Saturday's crucial battle for pole position.

Qualifying at Spa is always one of the biggest challenges of the season.

The circuit's 7.004km layout combines sweeping high-speed corners, dramatic elevation changes and long full-throttle sections that place huge demands on both drivers and machinery.

This weekend, the challenge is even greater.

Formula 1's new 2026 power units have made energy management a major talking point, with teams needing to carefully balance battery harvesting and deployment over a qualifying lap.

Add the ever-present threat of Ardennes rain, and another unpredictable pole shootout looks highly likely.

Mercedes head into the weekend with arguably the quickest one-lap package, despite reliability concerns preventing the team from maximising recent race results.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli remains under pressure after a difficult run of reliability issues, while George Russell arrives full of confidence following another impressive performance at Silverstone.

Ferrari also look increasingly capable of challenging over a single lap.

Lewis Hamilton continues to settle into life with the Scuderia and has shown encouraging qualifying pace in recent rounds, while Charles Leclerc remains a constant threat whenever Ferrari unlocks the car's full potential.

Red Bull cannot be ignored either.

Max Verstappen endured a frustrating Silverstone weekend after crashing in qualifying before retiring from the race, but the four-time world champion has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to bounce back immediately.

McLaren, meanwhile, face another difficult qualifying session.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have both admitted the current car struggles with straight-line speed and energy deployment, two areas likely to be heavily exposed around Spa.

Belgian GP Qualifying Predictions

Mercedes still appear to hold a slight advantage over a single lap.

Russell has consistently extracted maximum performance in qualifying throughout the season and looks well suited to Spa's flowing, high-speed layout.

Antonelli should also be firmly in contention, although recent reliability frustrations may encourage Mercedes to adopt a slightly more cautious approach across the weekend.

Ferrari could provide the biggest challenge.

Hamilton continues to grow in confidence and has looked increasingly competitive in qualifying, while Leclerc possesses the speed to challenge for the front row if conditions remain stable.

Weather could ultimately prove decisive.

Even light showers can transform qualifying at Spa, with different parts of the circuit often experiencing completely different conditions during the same session.

That uncertainty should make for another fascinating fight for pole.

Belgian GP Qualifying Tips

Below, we have picked out three of our best bets for Belgian Grand Prix qualifying.

All odds are taken from Betnero at 10:00 UK time on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

George Russell On Pole – 6.70

Our first selection is George Russell to secure pole position.

The Mercedes driver has been one of the strongest qualifiers throughout the season and continues to maximise the pace available in the Silver Arrows package.

With Mercedes expected to remain the benchmark over a single lap, Russell offers excellent value at odds of 6.70.

Qualifying Margin Under 0.10 Seconds – 4.30

Next, we are backing pole position to be decided by less than one tenth of a second.

Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull all appear closely matched heading into the weekend, while changing weather conditions could compress the field even further.

Given how competitive qualifying has been throughout 2026, another incredibly close finish looks highly likely.

Lewis Hamilton Top Three Qualifying Position – 2.65

Finally, we are backing Lewis Hamilton to qualify inside the top three.

The seven-time world champion has continued to build confidence with Ferrari and has consistently looked more competitive over recent race weekends.

If Ferrari can maintain the progress shown at Silverstone, Hamilton has every chance of securing another strong grid position at one of Formula 1's greatest circuits.
