Wolves vs Portsmouth Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips: A Tight Wolves Win?

The Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated West Ham United 3-1 in exhibition play.

The Wolves can climb up to fifth in the Championship table with a victory over Pompey tonight, but after a poor start, the visitors find themselves in mid-table, and my Wolves vs Portsmouth prediction is that this could be a bit of a banana skin for the hosts.

Wolves vs Portsmouth Odds

It’s no surprise to see PricedUp have Wolves down as comfortable favourites for the clash at Molineux.

We might have seen an even shorter price for the home win if this fixture were earlier in the season, but the two sides’ form heading into the match means the result is by no means a foregone conclusion.

The antepost favourites for the Championship title have had a bit of an indifferent start and go into tonight’s game in the final play-off position.

In fact, Pompey have been something of a bogey team for Wolves over the years. They've won just four of their last 18 games against Portsmouth, with their last home win coming in April 1999.

Three defeats from their opening four games had many Portsmouth fans fearing the worst, but John Mousinho’s side have recovered well and are on the cusp of the top half.

Wolves vs Portsmouth Prediction: Wolves to Win and Under 2.5 Goals (3/1)

It’s hard to ignore the historical results between these two, but with so much time since their last meeting, I’m not giving that data as much weight as I usually would.

Wolves should have enough quality to get past a Portsmouth side that have improved in recent weeks, but in my opinion they'll still be around the bottom eight as we move through the winter months.

Only one side has scored fewer than Pompey’s five goals on the road this season, but they’ve only conceded four at the other end, so Wolves will likely find themselves in an attritional game where chances could be few and far between.

The hosts aren’t the biggest goalscorers, ranking 12th for home goals early in the campaign, and with Under 2.5 Goals winning in five of the last six matchups, I fancy the same again in the West Midlands.
