Championship Predictions Today: EFL Betting Tips for 8 September

For our Championship predictions today we’re taking a look at four of the six second-tier match-ups this evening, with three games to follow tomorrow, while a clutch of sides are still competing in the Carabao Cup.

Championship Predictions Today: Blades to Sharpen Up

Two sides struggling for consistency meet at Ewood Park as Blackburn Rovers host Sheffield United.

A draw at Wolves and a win over highly-fancied Middlesbrough was a tremendous start for Rovers, but they’ve failed to win in four games since then, including a home defeat to tonight’s opponents in the second round of the Carabao Cup a fortnight ago.

Chris Wilder’s Blades are 15th and lost for the first time this season at home to Norwich last Saturday. After starting the campaign with back-to-back 0-0 draws, their four matches since have returned 16 goals.

And after defeat to local rivals Preston at the weekend, I’m predicting the Rovers slump to continue. I’m kicking off my Championship predictions today with an away win at 13/10.

Burnley's Rocky Start

It’s been a nightmare start for new Burnley boss Nicky Hayen, who has his side rooted to the bottom of the Championship table after a winless five-match start.

Next, they head to Wrexham, who followed up an impressive away win at Millwall with a credible draw at early pace setters Swansea in a heated Welsh derby.

And the numbers don’t look good for the Clarets, having lost both away games this season with an aggregate score of 7-2. And with Wrexham looking to build on their recent momentum, I’m backing them to heap more misery on the visitors.

The home win and both teams to score double is my pick here at 14/5. Both teams have scored in every Burnley game so far this season.

Hammers Find Their Feet

After a bit of a bumpy start, West Ham are firmly up and running after back-to-back thumpings of Wolves and Derby.

They’re at Bolton tonight, who are hovering just above the bottom three after losing three on the spin, including a 4-0 hammering from Millwall. That followed a late defeat to Sheffield United, so confidence is low.

The hosts will also be without captain Josh Sheehan, after he was sent off in the Millwall defeat at the weekend.

West Ham are starting to purr and they should have far too much for Wanderers here. I like the handicap market and West Ham-1 follows form and is a click below even-money, at 7/8. 

Game of the Day

I’m completing my Championship predictions today with a look at what’s certainly the best match on paper, as table-topping Swansea travel to Southampton.

The Saints sit in 19th, but taking their four-point deduction into account and they would be sitting in the play-offs. It could’ve been even better, had they not dropped four points from winning positions in draws to Lincoln and Birmingham in the past week.

It’s a solid 11 points from five outings for the Swans, but perhaps more impressive is their defensive record, having conceded only one goal so far, and none at all since the opening day.

But Saints have won their two home games 5-1 and 3-1, and their attack is one of the most dangerous in the league.

History isn’t on the visitors’ side either. They’ve won only once away from home to Southampton since 1953 and have won just one of their last 12 meetings.

With that in mind, I’m backing Saints to inflict a first defeat of the season on the Welshmen. A home win and over 2.5 goals is up on Betnero at 5/3.
