Spain are gearing up for only their second FIFA World Cup final after impressively seeing off France in the semi-finals.  

Manchester City’s Rodri has been one of the stars of the show in North America, guiding his nation to the World Cup final after a spate of world-class performances in the heart of La Roja’s midfield. Will the 30-year-old be lifting the trophy at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday?

Rodri’s Dominant Displays

Rodri is one of the best in the world when it comes to controlling games from midfield. His tactical intelligence and passing ability are second to none, and he has been Spain’s standout performer in North America.

Man City’s No. 16 turned 30 during the tournament, but he has played almost every minute of Spain’s campaign, only coming off for the last few moments of the 0-0 draw with Cape Verde in game one.

Spain responded to the disappointing draw with Cape Verde on matchday one in Group H by winning the next six. They went through to the knockouts on seven points and beat Portugal, Belgium, and France to reach the final.

The French were many people’s picks to go all the way on North American soil, but Spain swept them aside in Texas. Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro got the goals, but Rodri ran the show in midfield.

Looking at the current World Cup Golden Ball odds, Lionel Messi is the strong favourite. However, Rodri is in with a shout, and he could be named the best player of the World Cup if he guides his nation to glory this weekend.
