The 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals are confirmed, with France playing Spain and England squaring off against old rivals Argentina.

The Three Lions are looking to book their spot in their first World Cup final since winning the competition on home soil in 1966. However, the world champions are standing in their way.

Brilliant Bellingham Fires England into Last Four

England have had a tough time in the knockout phase, having to come from behind to beat DR Congo and Norway. They also had to face Mexico at a ferocious Azteca in the last 16.

Thomas Tuchel’s men fell behind against the Norwegians in the quarter-finals, with Andreas Schjelderup’s cross-shot catching out Jordan Pickford. Nonetheless, Bellingham levelled on the stroke of half time.

The intriguing last-eight tie went to extra time, with both teams going for the win while remaining cautious at the back. Up stepped Bellingham in the 93rd minute, tapping in from a fumbled Morgan Rogers shot to fire the Three Lions into their second World Cup semi-final in eight years.

Can England See Off the Argentinians in Atlanta?

England now face old foes Argentina for a place in the 2026 World Cup final. The Argentinians are the holders after beating France four years ago, while the English have not reached a World Cup final in 60 years.

That said, the Three Lions have been in major finals in recent times, finishing runners-up in each of the last two UEFA European Championships. They were also World Cup semi-finalists in 2018, losing to Croatia.

Argentina will be formidable opponents at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Like England, without being at their absolute best in the knockouts, Lionel Scaloni’s troops have found a way to win.

This will be the first meeting since England won a five-goal thriller in a friendly back in November 2005. The last competitive game was three years earlier, as the English won a World Cup group match by a goal to nil, with David Beckham netting the only goal from the penalty spot.

The winners in Atlanta will face either France or Spain in the 2026 World Cup final at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday night.
