French Open Set For Gripping Double Finale

The clay court season draws to a close this weekend, with the men’s and women’s finals of Roland Garros taking place in Paris.

First up is the women’s showpiece, with Maja Chwalinska - a 500/1 outsider before the tournament - faces Mirra Andreeva, herself playing in her first grand slam final.

But Chwalinska is the story. The 24-year-old Pole’s best performance at a grand slam prior to this year’s French Open is a run to the second round of Wimbledon in 2022. In fact, she has never entered the main draw of a slam as a top-100 player.

Standing in her way is Andreeva, who has had a good season on tour after an excellent 2025. The teenager is still in her formative years but is sure to be a force in the women’s game in years to come.

She may not quite have hit the heights of last season, but victory in the Linz Open on clay in April, followed by a run to the Madrid Open final last month, is more than enough evidence to justify a short 2/9 price for her to lift the title this afternoon.

And in the men’s final tomorrow, 10th seed Flavio Cobolli faces Alexander Zverev.

It’ll be a fourth grand slam final for Zverev and a second at Roland Garros, where he lost in five sets to Carlos Alcaraz in 2024. He’s a heavy favourite at 2/9, but having failed three times at the final hurdle in slams, could that weigh down on the German?

There’s also an extra advantage for Cobolli.

The 24-year-old Italian heads into this one much the fresher of the two, after his compatriot and close friend Matteo Arnaldi withdrew from their semi-final with a virus.

But Zverev has a 3-1 record in the head-to-head with Cobolli, although both have straight-set victories against the other in clay court matches this year.
