Stones Heading to Chelsea?
Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing free agent John Stones, who left Manchester City at the end of last season.
New Blues boss Xabi Alonso is bolstering the ranks, and bringing in a player with Stones’ experience and ability would be a shrewd move by the Spaniard.
Could the England Defender Move to Stamford Bridge?
Stones had an incredible decade at Man City, winning six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, and several domestic cups. He made almost 300 appearances for the Manchester club before opting to move on.
At 32, Stones still has a lot to offer at the very highest level. He played his part at the 2026 FIFA World Cup for England, helping the Three Lions win the bronze medal in North America. The stalwart defender now wants to sort his club career out.
Chelsea are eyeing up an experienced centre-back, and Stones certainly fits the bill. However, they must act fast, as the free agent will be attracting plenty of interest elsewhere.
Can Alonso’s Much-Changed Chelsea Fight for the Title?
Alonso’s time at Real Madrid may have ended regrettably, but the former Liverpool midfielder remains one of the best young head coaches in the game. Bringing the Spaniard to the Bridge was quite a coup for the London club.
After years of mediocracy, Chelsea want to be challenging for the big trophies again, and the board are backing Alonso in the transfer market.
They have already splashed the cash this summer, with Morgan Rogers signing for £117m, and Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra arriving in big-money deals.
The likes of Marc Cucurella, Andrey Santos, and Tyrique George have left Stamford Bridge, and more will be heading for the exit door before the window shuts.
Before a ball has been kicked in the 2026-27 Premier League season, Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool, and Manchester United are ahead of the Londoners in the title odds market. Still, Chelsea will quietly go about their business as Alonso looks to settle in West London as quickly as possible.
