Mohamed Salah Completes Surprise Move to Turkey

Mohamed Salah was unveiled at Trabzonspor yesterday, signing a two-year deal with the Turkish side.

Despite more lucrative offers elsewhere, Salah opted to sign for the Trabzon team, and he will wear the No. 10 shirt at Papara Park.

Has the Egyptian King Still Got a Lot to Offer?

His last year at Liverpool may not have gone the way that Salah would have wanted, but the Egyptian could still have a lot to offer at the highest level. He became a club legend during his nine-year stay at Anfield, scoring a staggering 257 goals.

Even at 34, Salah remains one of the best strikers in world football, and he is more than capable of ripping up the Turkish Super Lig if he stays fit and hungry.

Although he will miss out on UEFA Champions League football, Trabzonspor qualified for the UEFA Europa League at the end of last season, finishing third behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

The move is a huge one for the Turkish side, and they will be gunning for the league title this term. Trabzonspor have won seven championships, with the 2021-22 success being their most recent.

Salah Turns Down Several Lucrative Offers Elsewhere

According to reports, Salah turned down big offers from Saudi Arabian, MLS, and Champions League clubs.

Although his wages and earnings have not been disclosed, the former Liverpool ace could have no doubt earned more money elsewhere. However, he was on a £400,000-per-week contract at Anfield, so money is no issue for the Egyptian captain.

Salah almost moved to Turkish rivals Besiktas, but a potential deal fell through due to various factors. Trabzonspor stepped in and got the deal over the line for the popular striker.

The Turkish top division gets back underway next weekend, as Trabzonspor make the trip to Kasimpasa. Salah’s home unveiling will come a week later when Fatih Tekke’s Black Sea Storm entertain Istanbul Basaksehir at Papara Park.
