The English champions have been linked with Alvarez during the break, and the London club are still hopeful of getting their man. However, the 26-year-old has reportedly told Diego Simeone that he wants to join Barcelona.

The Londoners have already bolstered their squad, and the capture of Guimaraes is a real signal of intent. If they can persuade Alvarez to join, Arsenal will arguably have the strongest XI in the league.
